How do you get your four year old to stop saying they are "worthless" or "trash"? This is an honest question. My older son has started saying it recently, sometimes out of nowhere. No matter how much his dad an I tell him he's not he argues with us just like he does on everything.

Where did he learn that from? Sorry I have no advice other then to praise him for his accomplishments but I’d be concerned where he learnt it from. Has someone been speaking to him like that?
Mandy·
Does he go to school? I would be so concerned where he learned it from. Maybe use some positive reinforcement. Tell him he's awesome and great when he does things. Boost his confidence

I agree you need to find out where he heard that from. Every day you need to look him in his eyes and tell him he is strong, he is smart, he is worthy, he matters, he is handsome, he is valued. Every day make it your mission to uplift him and speak positivity into him. Build him up.

I agree, find out who he got this from and remove him or change that environment. Show him a lot of love and celebrate every little accomplishment of his.

I was just thinking about how if I ever hear my daughter say this it would absolutely break my heart. I am so sorry he learned that from someone. I'm sure you give him all the love in the world. Who would say such a thing to a four year old. How terrible. I hope you find out who did.

@mimixtmn @massgirl @dontblockmesis-imjustspeakingfacts @rosemom @sharkbait. It kills me inside every time I hear him say it. His older brother is my husband's from another marriage and lives with his grandparents. He is the one my son got that kind of talk from. He says it about himself especially when he's being reprimanded or not getting enough attention. Unfortunately I can't keep him away from his older brother because that would break a lot of hearts. My husband's son has adhd and I'm sure some other issues because of the situation. It just kills me when he says it and I want it to stop before his younger brother learns words.

Honestly I would definitely get the older brother into counseling. It will help his self-esteem. Work on building your own son's self esteem but if that doesn't work get him into counseling too. You need to nip this in the bud before it gets out of hand and you're right your younger son will pick up on it too

oh ok I thought it was an adult teaching him that or perhaps at school. If it’s his older brothers then he needs help as well. Like massgirl said
Try counseling, it’ll help him and stop your son from further using that language. Try to find out where his older brother is getting it from too.

@massgirl @rosemom I can do nothing about his older brother. My husband's mother has made it clear that it's not my place to have any say about him. I will talk to my sons doctor about possible therapy. At this point I'm very upset with my husband's side of the family as they have made me feel recently like I don't belong

that’s upsetting, you’re trying to look out for the kids best interest. But for you son, therapy, love and more love
Mandy··
It's your husband's son right? Make your husband put him in therapy; unless he doesn't have custody

my husband does not. He only has supervised visits.
