Help! I went from pumping 6 oz of milk a day to pumping only 1 oz every 3 hours i dont want my baby to drink formula which i don't want to do. So what can i do to increase milk supply?
For me, hydration is the key. The more water I drink, the more I produce. And pump the side baby feeds on after he finishes that side. And alternate. This can trick your body into thinking baby is eating more and will increase supply for you.
Eat oatmeal, stay super hydrated, try not to stress. Drink a lot of water/coconut water. Mothers milk tea is helpful too.
Are you exclusively pumping? Pumping cant exactly mimic the babies mouth so try to put baby to breast as much as possible.
That might help most out of everything..
. I dont do well with pumping. Idk why but it seems to just empty what i have and not really build up more. When i would feed i could actually feel a tingle of milk swelling. Never felt it w pump.
My son had difficulty latching and was in nicu. My milk came in, but slowly left as he wouldnt bf for more than a minute or so. He just couldnt do it. Also i was so stressed out and i think that also majorly affected it..
I tried oatmeal, they said steel cut is best. I ate loads of it. I tried lactation cookies, lactation vitamins, hydrating like crazy, even drank some beer, but w out him latching, it just faded away. Had to switch to formula.
I had no issue w my daughter. Still had nilk from her when i got preg w her brother 7yrs later.
Im not saying this to scare u. Just saying if it doesnt work out, its ok. I didnt want formula either. I cried. But fed is best. The baby got the most important part, colostrum. Give the baby what you have and suppliment if u have to.
(Oh and ref the beer thing. They have done studies showing that the amount of alcohol is negligible. It takes drinking huge amount of liquor really.. to even contain the amount in cold medicine. I had a half a beer when i was bf my daughter and i had so much milk come in it engorged them. It really worked that time. But again w out latching and w so much stress didnt help w my son when i tried same thing)
