It’s a legitimate question that I have. Especially if you been with someone over a year!

Personally, I believe unless you’re gonna say the vows & make a true promise then it doesn’t mean anything so if your bf & gf then I feel like you could definitely make that promise to each other but there would be nothing binding you or holding you to that. In marriage you have the ring plus the vows you say to each other yourselves & make official. I also believe if you expect someone to Wanna commit like that to you, then maybe it’s time to take it the next step & not remain bf & gf, but fiancé’s & soon husband & wife.

It could apply to bf/gf but not required. I doubt if you're with somebody for a yr + and they get sick you'll just say aight imma head out (spongebob meme) but if you dont want to deal with it technically you're not obligated

No, if you're ready for all that with a boyfriend or girlfriend then it's time to consider marriage.

I ALWAYS said that to myself when dealing with my ex.... "WHY do I keep dealin with his ass?? Its not like we're married." Now that I am married, the mentality is just different. Of course, my husband is ACTUALLY a good person that I love dearly so that helps. I WILL work through whatever with him just like I PROMISED I would.

“In sickness and in health” is a marriage vow, so the vow only applies in that sense- marriage is a contract both legally and spiritually (if you are religious). A boyfriend and girlfriend do not have a contract, well unless you are into that sort of thing and do ;). With that said, a GOOD girlfriend or boyfriend would stand by your side when ill, if not, what is the relationship based on? You shouldn’t be together. So to me it does not apply, but SHOULD be a given. This goes for friendships as well. Divorcing someone over being sick vs breaking up over being sick is still a huge difference though—- not to mention, in marriage you would share your spouses medical benefits.
