Just got home from Haley's 2wk appointment the good news is that she gained weight but the nurse practitioner said that while it's a good weight gain she's a little bit concerned that she's not gaining enough weight. So she recommends that I pump more so I can give her the higher calorie milk and I can make more milk and some formula. She wants us to come back next week to see if she gains weight and to see how much she eats from me...😔😢 guess we're gonna have another formula kid....

You don’t HAVE to do formula. I was just told I should be pumping as well to get my little guy to gain a little more. All my boys have been slow to gain weight. With my first, I didn’t even try to breastfeed when he wasn’t gaining/ I went straight to formula. With my second he was very premature and so he needed some formula and fortified milk but I ended up nursing him for 2 years. This little guy was a little early and is still trying to catch up. Some kiddos are that way- it doesn’t mean you’ll have to use formula. Just try pumping and see if that works.

Try seeing a lactation consultant!! They were so helpful to me both times! Definitely kept me going!

@armywife72515, right, I didn’t feel like they were helpful while in the hospital either. My milk didn’t even come in till the 4th day. I went back a couple times in the first week. They strip baby down to their diaper and weigh baby. Nurse on one side, weigh baby. Nurse on the other and weigh again. Then you know exactly how many ounces baby got.

@justgotaname yeah that sounds like that's what they want to do at the next appointment

I was pumping at first but Haley wanted my attention so much that I couldn't...so I was just nursing and I thought I was doing well but I guess not...

. If you’re super against giving formula then u could try to nurse and pump more right? They usually lose some weight then gain it back. I’m sure she’s looking out for the best of your daughter but again u could always pump and bottle feed breast milk so u know how much she’s getting right?
