My son 😣
Who has a child with ADHD? I need help. Only 3rd week of school and he has gotten in trouble 3x. Thats once a week... I am so disappointed and honestly feel bad for my son. Because he is so.impulsive and is so energetic i dont think he can control it. Currently of his.meds because.it made him extremely aggressive and wasnt helping him one bit. And the meds before that made him like a zombie and i just didnt want to see him like that. Breaks my heart for him. I dony know what to do or how to help him. I dont really want to try a 3rd medicine. I just want to help him be able to function properly without it. Partly not sure if hes just not listening or he cant help it. I know when i ask him about it once i pick him he'll tell ne they are lieing and he will lash out because i dont believe him. So on and so on. Hoping for a good rest of the day for him

Maybe some kind of therapy is an option? Talk to his doctor.

Maybe behavioral therapy. Definitely talk to his doctor & bring it up!

My son has adhd and bipolar. He has in home therapy 2 times a week. We have a case manager also. We have a 504 plan with the school and have requested an IEP. He will also receive therapy from csb that comes into the school. Does your son have a 504 plan? What meds have you tried?

@anicole3285 that's exactly what I was going to say. Private schools are notorious for doing more damage than good with children that need extra accommodations. I would at least meet with a public school to see what they say. Also look into having a psychiatrist evaluate him.

I agree with all of the above. Medications aren't a bad thing. It's just a matter of finding the right ones that work for you.

look into therapy to help him manage his emotions. kids with adhd can't manage their emotions or regulate themselves. my son who just turned 7 has adhd its been a very long road and still a long one ahead we have chosen the no meds option and went for therapy because we didn't want any of those issues you listed. when he gets physically over simulated try to find a quite place and drink some cold water have him count the sips ad try to mentally simulate him and calm him physically. if it's the other way around tell him to do some jumping jacks or dance etc to get those bursts of energy out. look into special classrooms not regular ones there is no way he will pay attention or listen with so many distractions. my son is in a classroom with 5 kids and 2 teachers now it's a lot better. it's very hard and at times you will feel like your are failing and people don't always understand what it is like or believe that your child has such issues but love him through the hard times try to be calm amongst the chaos to show him how to calm himself. it's very hard and takes awhile for them to learn how to manage and regulate their emotions but wth therapy and all the effort they will. also try switching him to whole wheat bread if you don't already use it and watch sugar intake it does help also look out for triggers like video games playing fighting with friends etc and limit those

Hey dear. It is heartbreaking to watch our kids struggle isn't it? I have a few recommendations. If you are able to, I would homeschool. A child without adhd really shouldn't be being forced to sit in a desk for such long hours, now think of how it would be for a child with adhd? Medications can transform your child's struggles! Truly can! But, it takes a lot of time to find out what combination and doses will work. It is sad and you will feel like you are forcing him to be a test rat but, you have to do some trial and error. Also, look in to have lab work done to see how he metabolizes things. If you can just get that one test done it will cut out a lot of guess work. As well, you are your child's advocate. Switch classroom teachers, switch schools, dual enroll and only do half days or certain classes with the school, completely pull him out and homeschool, etc. But mostly, relax and know that this too shall pass. Maybe like a kidney stone, but it will pass. They learn to self soothe and their own ways to cope as they get older. Just support his journey and help anywhere you can.
