You should rear face your child for as long as possible. 2 is the minimum age to turn them forward facing. Meaning until they reach the seats height/weight limit you should rear face. there are many seats that allow you to rear face for an extended period. There are many that rear face until 45-50 pounds.
You should rear face until at least two, and preferably until they reach rear facing limits for ultimate safety. Regardless of the law, I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t want their child as safe as possible, but it seems people are unaware of car seat safety. Luckily there are mom groups to help!
I suggest checking out car seat safety pages. Some states are now making it mandatory for rear facing until 2 for the child's safety. Others advocate for rear facing as long as possible.
