Suicide

Do you know of anyone who has threatened suicide as a manipulation tactic? Like maybe they are suicidal ( or have been in the past) but sometimes they threaten it just to get you to do something? If this happens, do you ever think maybe this time they are for real?

As a person who had depression and suicidal thoughts as well as a cousin that ended their life a year ago to suicide people who actually suffer dont speak of it even as a joke they dont talk about it sounds more attention tbh

Learn from my experience. If they're threatening it call 911 and get them help. Even one or two nights in a psych ward is enough for the fakes to not to do it again. If they go to the psych ward they'll be evaluated and if they are actually suicidal they will get the help they need before they are discharged.

Exactly^ I’ve had people in my life threaten suicide to me and I tell them that I’d rather have them safe and mad at me then dead. A welfare check or a few nights in the psych ward usually cuts it out quickly. Sorry you’re dealing with this

My mother does it on occasion. She's clinically bipolar. She has learned her lesson enough not do it really any more but what used to happen was she used to threaten it and it would back fire because she would have to do two weeks minimum in a psych ward. Getting admitted and the being fine is awful so she finally stopped playing that card after a while.

So she wasn't really suicidal?

So we deal with this way toooo often. My husband has an aunt who did threaten to commit suicide and she tried but failed twice.

She does do it as a manipulation technique to try and make her 16 year old stay around. She is a sociopath though. She has other mental issues besides her depression and anxiety.

Like for example

She gave her daughter epikak and rushed her to the hospital to make her look like a good mom. Anytime she fed her daughter she would throw up. But anyone else could feed her and she wouldn't.

So in my experience when it's a manipulation tactic there's something more deeply wrong than depression.

But since she did actually make attempts, are you always on high alert?

@pamelawife134

Not really.

Both times she did it in front of her children.

My husband's cousin was only 9 the. Last time.

She's been in and out of mental hospitals. You can only offer someone so much help

Yes I have plenty of people in my family who actually did commit suicide. Thing is they never threatened it. My uncle says it alot but never does and it does worry me. It worries me because I'm thinking this could be it. I had a bf when I was 16 said it all the time. He did commit suicide when I was 18.

So do you think if someone really wants to do it, they just will and not mention it beforehand?

@pamelawife134 I really don't know I just know they didn't let anyone know. Maybe it's different for some. I just know they didn't threaten it they just did it.

My ex husband did this to me all the time.. If you think they may actually do it, cqll the law and get them help.. But dont let them use that to keep you in a place that you dont want to be.

So you knew he was just bluffing? How/ why? Was it because his behavioral pattern wasn't indicative of suicide?

Iv known someone like this and I definitely left not someone you wanna be around. Some ppl use it as a weak advantage to pray on others for attention
