I'm so sorry you went through that... my mom had the same thing happen to her where my stepdad nearly killed her...now 10 years later she is saying she is leaving him for good...but it's been back n forth for a long time. Even though he stopped physically hitting her, he still mentally abuses her. No type of abuse is okay, and doesn't matter whether he's drunk/high, etc. My mom would make excuses for my stepdad too. Try looking up battered women's syndrome...hope it isn't the case for you...but just leaving the link to be aware of symtpoms and traits to look out for.
