So is it really necessary to change the nipples for bottle to the next level?

I don’t remember ever changing Tinleys, which she went to a sippy cup at 6 months old.

of course your baby needs a different flow after time the stage one is slow for newborns

I personally am changing up to the 3-6 month medium flow on the 17th for my little one but I can tell she's getting frustrated she isn't getting enough out at once. If he doesn't seem to care and is eating fine I would just ask the pedi. 🤷🏻♀️

He will only drink out of dr brown bottles. I bought some already for his other ones. I just got new bottles today and didn’t know if I should just go ahead and buy the nipples also. I don’t care to get them. Lol. He seems fine eating either way.

He will get frustrated with eating eventually if the flow isn't the appropriate speed.

I’ve stayed with the stage one nipples my babies 7 months but he pukes a lot

No let him tell you when he is ready. Breastfed babies never change to a faster flow nipple. I didn’t plan to change my daughters but she started getting frustrated. Feedings should still take 20 minutes. It takes that long for them to feel full. If they’re eating faster than that they are likely to not feel full yet and want to overeat.

He finishes bottles so fast. Lol.
He eats nonstop. It’s almost like he never gets full.

Breastfed babies cant "change to a faster flow nipple" like you said, but the flow of breastmilk does adjust to babys needs. As a baby gets older, their suck becomes stronger and they are able to feed much faster.
