Not to be causing any controversy but any fellow preemie mums (or term mums) have tips about weaning?
Every doctor says different things. Ailsa is six months now cannot sit unaided, tongue thrust not really apparent at all.
Bliss guidelines say preemie babies can be propped for food if not sitting yet but she is too small for a high chair so would be her bouncer.
Hand and eye coordination is getting there but def not ready for BLW
SALT say don’t delay weaning too far as can cause swallowing difficulties 🤷🏻‍♀️
I know her gut has had milk in from day three but that doesn’t make it more mature but she has never had any gut issues.
Long winded but this has been plaguing my thoughts for way too long! What should I do?????
My initial thinking was sevenish months she was ten weeks early so bang in the middle of corrected and actual?

No experience of premie baby. But my youngest wasn't interested in food till he was 7.5 months. I'd just go with when you feel she's ready.

My youngest son was born at 35 weeks. I started weaning him at 7 months old. He wasn't interested in purees so he started with finger foods. He didn't actually eat much, until he was about 9 months old xx

My daughter didn’t eat food until 9 months :) she was not prem! She simply wasn’t interested:)

You can wait :) you don’t have to wean bang on 6 months :) if she’s not sitting unaided yet then wait :) food before 1 is fun xx

Thank you it is reassuring. I’m happy to wait which is why I haven’t started her yet she is over six months, it was all just ticking over so thought ask what others thoughts were.

Haven’t got a premature baby but food before one is just for fun so there’s no harm waiting until she can hit those milestones (coordination skills, head control etc) , she will get there eventually.

I didn’t wean my second until really late around 8/9 months due to allergies and lack of support as I had no health visitor, he’s 2 now and had no problems and a healthy boy.

Do it when you feel she’s ready and you’re ready and comfortable xx

I never even thought about the food before one is just for fun! I seriously need to relax more sometimes with her!
This has helped me feel better, thank you!
I’m enjoying her being a baby longer, silver lining of a premature baby.
This was the only thing I have been over thinking regarding development. Every other part I’m just letting her do in her own time like I did with my first. Enjoy when they are young as they don’t stay that way for long.

@casey19, I’m glad you feel reassured sometimes it feels like there’s so much pressure on things! They sure don’t I can’t believe my youngest is now munching roast dinners, the year has flown by! X

George is no where near sitting and his head control is awful. They’ve told me to wean him as normal at 6 months but I think I’m going to hold off for a while. I think just read her signals x

@casey19, yeah there’s so many different guidelines for preemies. I think it’s all because of the difference in how early they are born

@mrsbodell, that’s what my conclusion has been too how old they were and why actually happened health wise with them etc etc

@casey19 I don't have any experience with prem babies but I remember starting weaning Morgan at 6months & he had no interest so I tried again at 7months. If you think she isn't ready I don't see the harm in holding off a little longer. She may come along in one more month & you feel she is ready for a little food... Milk is still their main source of nutrition. Yes they need to learn how to eat but it might just be a little later. I can't see it devastating her development holding off another month.

I don’t know anything about preemie babies but my daughter wasn’t sitting unaided when I started BLW at 6 months so I sat her in a high chair with a cushion behind her x

Did she manage BLW? I don’t think ailsa has the hand movements for it just yet. Wouldn’t know where to start spoon feeding a baby as BLW with boy at six months but he was term

@casey19, can she hold things to her mouth to chew them? I’d say that’s the only coordination she needs to start with x
