Noah had his 12 month development check yesterday everything is fine apart from him not saying 'dada' 'mama' and 'baba'. If he doesn't say words like these within a month they want to send him to audiology.. anyone elses little one not say these things yet? He's not even one yet.. just worries me and my oh as we thought he was doing well.. he talks but it's like aaaaaa and mmmmmmmm.. 😩

Don’t worry about it hun he will say things in his own time. They put all this pressure on us mums when babies do develop at their own rates xx

Theo literally didn't say anything until he was 15 months. Now at 23 months you can have a little chat with him :) I honestly wouldn't worry about it :) xx

Thank you ladies! Just worries us so much.. annoying that they have to be doing stuff by their guidelines or whatever when every baby is different!!!!! If they want him to go to audiology I'll take him but it will be a waste of time! 😂 xx

Children do things at different times, I hate the guidelines! Like Theo developed physically a lot faster than he did verbally, like by 10 months he was confidently walking around and trying to jump, his fine and gross motor skills are great but he wasn't saying words like "mama" at his 15 month check so according to our health visitor he "wasn't developing at the rate they would expect" 😩 he's now able to count to ten in English and five in Polish and he can say some Polish words and almost string a sentence together in English. We were told to drop the Polish because "he's clearly finding it to much" 😂 I haven't listened to a word my health visitor has said since she told me he was to old to be breastfeeding at 8 months 😂

They make you worry that your child is behind, but they are just developing at their own pace. I'd just take any help they offer but whatever they say take it with a pinch of salt. You're doing great! Xx

@jamie123 I'm so glad you've said this as Noahs motor skills they were extremely happy with! Just verbally.. not doing anything apart from random noises.. mmm and aaaaa. Xxxx

No words at all? Boys are slower than girls... it’s what my mum said :)

But all babies develop in their own time :)

Usually it’s not a concern until around 2/3 :)

You’re doing amazing! Don’t let it bother you :)

Just chat loads to him! I never did baby talk with Maya... everything I said was as it was :)

Talking to them loads also helps with language xx

I wouldnt worry he's still so young. Morgan was only using a handful of words up until he was 2.5/ 3yrs. He wasnt saying Mummy/ daddy etc under 1 either. They do this check between 9-12months around where I live. Babies can change a lot in that time. I was meant to book Max's at 9months but didn't due to moving etc we put it back. Anyways if they had been at 9months he would have been marked in black in quite a few areas. At 9months he was still falling backwards after sitting a while. No talking other than a few babbles etc. Not cawling or pulling to stand. However when they came when he was just over a year he was doing the majority of the 'checklist' Its silly they expect so much. If they don't tick a certain amount of boxes they get referred. I guess it's better to be on top of it but feels a bit extreme when we all know they develop at different rates.
