Anyone else have a child that's left handed? Did it take a while for them to catch on to writing and drawing? My son is doing a lot better than what he was

My oldest is left handed. He didn’t take longer with anything really other then cutting because schools don’t have left handed scissors.

@supermomsuperwife2019, nope and tbh I didn’t even think of it, at the end of his jk year (prek for USA) his teacher sent a form for referral therapy saying he lacked fine motor skills I was completely shocked because he def had no issues with his fine motor skills. When the therapist called me she said his teachers concern was his cutting, I was so pissed off that after a whole school year the teacher didn’t realize it was due to being left handed.

Aubrey didn't have any issues with writing or drawing. She's actually an Excellent little artist. However she still writes small word backwards and still gets b,p,q,d and even f backwards.
I think she might actually be dyslexic but it's also a common thing for left handed people. My sister wrote backwards because she was left handed 🤷

It's not.
I was saying writing backwards with letters or words is connected with being left handed. It doesn't mean they're dyslexic

Her teachers are watching her closely though. I been bugging all her teachers since Kindergarten.
My youngest sister is dyslexic and failed 2nd grade because of it. Her Grandpa is also dyslexic.
I'm left handed and it's definitely more difficult. We have to make our letters differently and start from different points than they teach the other children. My teachers would get so frustrated teaching me. I would say try and find some left handed work books for him to practice with at home!
Girl I could hug you right now that's a great idea because we are struggling to teach him because we are both right handed...I'm gonna check a couple book stores tomorrow since I have to go to the mall anyway. If I don't see any I'll check amazon or eBay
@supermomsuperwife2019 I would definitely check amazon! I've not seen them in stores a whole lot but they do have a lot more for us lefties than they used too!! I'm technically ampidextrous so I play sports righty and can use either hand for scissors but I was desperately in need of these things when learning how to write! If you need any help feel free to message. I'm slow at replying on here sometimes but I will get back to you. 😁😁
I’m left handed and I can definitely say it took me a little longer than the right handed kids. Everything is flipped for us and our brains process directions differently. I still to this day do not hold a pencil the “correct” way. And I don’t write my letters the same way as everyone else either.
@mommaofjais, I can only imagine 😩 my son starts pre-K next week and I hope everything goes well! I don't want him to ever feel left out you know! You're right they make this a left handed world when it shouldn't be we all just do things differently
