So my 17 mth old has a fever of 104.5. We already went to the walk in earlier today when fever was 102.6 and they said he has fifth disease. He hasn't had a red cheek rash or anything. His dad has had pneumonia for over a week. I'm highly sleep deprived and panicked. I don't want to walk in to the er and have them be nasty and treat me lik a crazy mom but I also don't really feel like this is okay. When awake he still acts like himself.

I’m sorry he’s sick. Go off of his behavior. Did they listen to his lungs very well??
MoT··
No np sucked but his o2 sat was really good and I have my bsn... He sounds clear to me. I do wish she would have paid more attention. In room less then 5 minutes
BunsInMyOven··
I hate when that happens😑 as long as he sounds clear, I wouldn’t worry ab pneumonia. I sure hope you can get some rest ❤️🙏

Also, are you alternating Tylenol and ibuprofen every 3 hours to bring down his temp??
MoT··
Yes.. That's temp right at three hour mark

poor little guy. My youngest had a high fever that went up to 104 but then it topped out started to break and fever was gone in ab 24/48 hours. She didn’t really have symptoms. Could just be the way his body fights it. As long as it’s going back down, even just .5 degrees. When the temp is that high that small change is significant. Keep having him take small sips of water.
But also go with your gut if you suspect something worse
MoT··
thank you!
Sistersmainpiece·
Is he having other symptom beside fever?
MoT··
Running nose and cough is all
Justgotaname ·
What are you using to bring down the fever? Ibuprofen works better for my kids. Also may need to alternate Ibuprofen and Tylenol? Did they say to do that?
MoT··
Yes alternating

My daughter had a fever without any other symptoms for 72 hours. There is a virus going around. If the fever is 102 and under let him ride it out unless. Anything over 102 you want to medicate. Fevers are a good thing, it’s the body doing its job to fight the virus. It also helps build their immunity for future. You can give him a lukewarm bath, use a lukewarm wash cloth to lower body temp and also just keep him in a diaper. If he is uncomfortable or not himself definitely give him medicine. Sometimes it’s better to treat at home than going to the er or dr. They catch more germs and it can turn into something more.

@sistersmainpiece we can drop it about 1 degree which is a win. This time by the end of three hours it shot up higher but after 20 min of Tylenol dropped two degrees so that's good. He fell asleep really hard so I finally put him in his crib since he kept startling awake on me.

@sistersmainpiece I told them and explained it was the reason I brought him but they didn't run an x-ray. The lady wasn't really concerned. She said he had a lace rash so it was probably fifth disease... (we are actually super pale and I told her he always looks like that and he never had the rosy cheeks but she just said it was that or some virus and that was it. Less than five minutes in the room and I had to request she check his ears)

We had this virus a months or so ago. Fevers right at 100-101, with no other symptoms. It was super weird. Ibuprophen worked wonderfully for my kids as well. Broke the fever every time.
MoT·
@sistersmainpiece @bunsinmyoven he just woke up and he is sweating and his temp is down to 100.1...i can't believe how quick it dropped. I hope this means the worst is over! Thank you all so much. I was so scared!
BunsInMyOven··
Yay!!!!!! 🙏❤️ hope it keeps heading that way! I noticed w my girls that they tend to spike high and then once they do they finally break. Once I recognized the pattern, I swear I don’t freak out anymore the way I used to w fevers. I am a worrier so that’s a big deal lol.
Sistersmainpiece··
That’s great news! 🤞🏽no more high fevers and he is almost all better.
