Has anyone received a settlement before ? I have a meeting tomorrow with my lawyer because they have reached a settlement amount with the insurance company and want to go over the figures. I was wondering if anyone knows if I accept the offer, how long it generally takes to receive the funds? I’ve been dealing with this for over a year and this is case 1 of 2 from in the ordeal so I’m happy it’s almost over. They are still waiting on something regarding my medical bills but they have everything calculated in.

I don't know how long it will take -- it can take up to years in some cases -- but avoid those settlement companies that will claim to get you your money now. They take a large chunk of it in return.

I have a lawyer and they have reached a settlement amount. The process is completed. I just want to know if I agree to the amount how long it takes to receive funds.

We have. But not for a car accident. It took us over a year to get the money we were owed.

Dang, do you know why it took so long to get the funds? I know when the insurance company cut a check for my car it was really fast. I wonder if it’s a different process even though we are dealing with the same insurance company and it’s for the same case.

@sistersmainpiece That's what I meant in my response -- it could take up to several years to receive a settlement.

My hubby and I was hit by a semi automatic we went to small claims court after a year of my lawyer trying to sue them amount came up to less than 10,000 so we had to take it to small claims court and right after the judge ruled in our favor because we were hit and he was covered by his company we got the check the same day

Pretty much if your collecting money from a person and not a business or insurance company it takes longer and is harder because people have to pay out there own pocket but if it’s another entity you should have it really soon ones your agreement is signed

When I settled with the I insurance company my lawyer got the check 3 days later. He took his % and gave me a check with the remaining balance once the check cleared. It took about 7 days.
