So I'm texting my ex coworker in regards to his daughters. One is 21 and the other is 10. He says he feels like the 21 year old needs to do something with her life and the 10 year old is more motivated than her and is destined for success. What do you do if your child ends up not doing anything with their life at that age? I know she's still young but he says she keeps losing good jobs and dropped out of school. Do you push them to do better or do you just let her choose her path?

Uhhhh

At 21. She needs to choose her own path. I mean I'd offer resources to help but you can't stay at home without a job or at least in school 🤷.

I have a 20 year old niece -- smart as hell and working at Piggly Wiggly. I've given enough pep talks and motivational girl talks. It's time to let them find their own path. Let them fuck up a little, make some mistakes. I feel like at this point it's on them. Eventually they will either realize they are destined for more or this is all they what they want in life.

I told him the same thing. The ball is in her court now. He encouraged her all he could as she was growing up and it's time to let her choose what is best for her. I know that sucks as a parent

I’m 25. Graduated college at 20. Have an associates degree in the applied sciences of criminal justice. And I manage a fast food restaurant. Going to school or not going to school doesn’t accomplish anything. It’s life experiences that can make you successful.

even with my degree. I’d much rather be in food. I realized half way through college. Criminal justice isn’t what I wanted to do. So I finished. And went into food.

Does the 21yo live at home with him? I think it’s time to be on her own. Then maybe she will realize the worth of a good, stable job. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yup she lives with him. And I told him she is probably that way because she feels like she's taken care of so there's no need to get serious about a job

She'll end up doing whatever she wants. My husband's cousin is smart as hell, got a job offer at NASA and turned it down because he won't quit smoking weed. 🤷‍♀️

Time for the coworker to let the “baby” bird leave the nest. She’s 21. She can have her own place. She’ll keep screwing around cuz she’s being taken care of. She needs to be out in her own and making mistakes that will help her grow and become stronger. Loosing a job while living with mommy or daddy isn’t that bad cuz there’s no pressure. Loosing a job when you have your own place puts pressure to find a new to get bills paid. She’s young. She’s gonna make mistakes. That’s what helps us learn and grow.
