Violet definitely has an umbilical hernia. It's not super bad though, but the doctor was glad we took her in so he can monitor it at her appointments and we know to monitor it at home. He said it should go away by the time she's two but if it doesn't he might discuss having it surgically corrected. He also said a lot of people just assume their kids have an outie too. So ladies, if your babys belly button looks like this, it's worth having a doctor check it out. Luckily Violet's is mild, but her doctor said he's seen patients with hernias that were cause for concern that parents had just assumed was an "outie" and needed treatment for problems relating to the hernia because a problem can pop up fast if you aren't keeping an eye on them! That's scary stuff to think about. My own mother even told me taking her in was a waste of time because she "just has an outie". Ive got more peace of mind that her doctor knows about it and he's informed me on it now too. Still makes me nervous, but at least I know what to look out for now with her hernia. He even taught me how to feel the hernia and to help it back into place if it pops out more. 😬 It's real strange y'all.
