I remember back in the day parents bought what was needed and easily replaced it when necessary. We kept our own supplies. Parents would donate to the school if possible but on the first day of school I wasn't bringing 10 different colored notebooks and pencils or 5 big erasers, extra glue etc I had a few Lisa Frank folders, notebooks with goosebumps stickers on them a pack of pencils, one glue etc. Oh the memories☺

I don't have an issues buying supplies but luckily my daughter only needs a backpack and agenda 🤷. Her other supplies are donated

My nephews school is asking for name brand and specific and I think that's ridiculous. BTW we are in the same county, just different district!

I do buy a whole set-up for at the house.

I have no problem buying school supplies, but our school provides everything. I still send in tissues, cleaning wipes, hand sanitizer, and paper towels to each of my boy's classes though.

This is crazy cuz they didn’t even ask her if she wanted it or offer to send it back

I’ve never lived in a district that didn’t provide everything the child needed. It was all generic, nothing was cutesy...but nobody has to worry about how they can afford to buy school supplies. The lists wanting only name brand is crazy IMO. Some parents just can’t afford it and asking them to is beyond ridiculous. But schools should provide all that IMO

@ekko, I think it’s more that the local governments don’t want to. Not that they can’t honestly. But they don’t want to levy the property taxes to supplement the federal dollars to fund something like that. Which is what ours does. And our property taxes are actually super low in WA in general (and my county specifically) and we have no state income tax.

Oh I agree that the local governments don’t want to. Because of that, the schools can’t financially take on the expensive of providing all supplies. The vast majority of school funding comes from the local or state level. The federal govt only funds federal programs and requirements, such as special education (and even that’s not fully funded as it should be).

That doesn’t sound dumb. I know very few teacher who collect every single thing the kids bring in. Actually, I can’t think of a single one who does that. Certain things are shared and I always ask the kids to keep the stuff they want whether it’s pencil cases, crayons, etc. If kids try to give me really nice things that their parents obviously bought for them (like fancy mechanical pencils or something), then I always say “oh I bet your mom wanted you to keep those” and give them back.

I wanted to do one of these before our breastfeeding journey ended. I have a feeling it’s soon 😔 since her dr has us giving her formula to give her more calories, I’m finding it difficult to give her breastmilk as well. She gets full off of me alone so she doesn’t want the formula if I breastfeed her first. And if I give her formula first, she doesn’t want the breastmilk. I’ve been alternating feedings but that’s just caused my supply to drop. She’s getting chunky, though. That’s all I care about, really.

I can't take it anymore! Haley (yes my 1mth old and no I wasn't able to go through this "joy" of nursing my older daughter, Molly) has been screaming non stop for 6hrs! All she wants to do is eat and I can't have her attached to me all day, everyday! She has wanted to eat every hr on the hr for the past 3hrs! I put her in her room so I don't scream at her but I just can't take it!
