Hello fellow mamas! My name is Sarah. I’m from SW Ohio and I’m currently a stay-at-home mom. My husband and I welcomed our first baby, a sweet and handsome boy named Gatlin, in the end of April after weeks of complications.
About 4 weeks leading up to our son being born, we went to a normal prenatal check-up only to find out that I had new onset hypertension. I was sent to L&D for observation and given a steroid shot in the event baby needed to be delivered early. I went back the next day for part two of the shot and ended up having a severe allergic reaction (loss of consciousness, breathing difficulties, tachycardia) and was placed on bedrest. The following weeks, I was spending at least two overnights per week in L&D due to my BP and because my baby was having strong runs of tachycardia. My last overnight stay, they checked my amniotic fluid index and it was fine, over the weekend, however, my fluid dropped from 10 to 4.73 which is dangerous and was sent to be induced immediately.
Gatlin arrived the following night by emergency c-section. 7lbs 4oz, 20” long. I can say I have never been so scared in my life than being strapped to that operating table waiting for them to deliver my baby. The moment I heard him cry for the first time, I was overwhelmed with happiness and I have been in love ever since.
Gatlin is the best thing to ever happen to my husband and I. I have PCOS and it took us almost a year to conceive with the help of an awesome Endocrinologist.
Up until his arrival, I was a phlebotomist at a local hospital and planned to return. God, however, had another plan. Unbeknownst us, Gatlin has an underdeveloped trachea (laryngomalasia) and needed my undivided and close attention. Luckily, he is outgrowing it like the pediatrician said he would.
Outside of our crazy 3rd trimester and delivery, my husband and I are Jeepers and gearheads, through and through. Before pregnancy, you’d find us in the garage together any spare chance we got. He gets out there more than me anymore, but we plan to wrench as a family when little man is old enough. We have two dogs, Conner and Oakley. #myfirstpost
