I used to live near by. Some parts of it are really gross and have a lot of gang action. Do your research. Camarillo is a few exits south and is much nicer.
I love about 30min from Oxnard. The collections area is nice, but overall Oxnard is gross and has a lot of gangs. Oxnard does have cheaposh housing though.

We took a little family vacation there last summer and I thought it was beautiful. We stayed at a hotel on the beach
