I have to get Charley’s bloodwork done in order for her to start her head start program next month. I’m really nervous. How do they take a 2 years old blood?
BakingDaddy ·
From the arm like an adult.
Kayla ··
Gaaah I’m so nervous to take her
BakingDaddy ··
my son didn't even flinch when the needle went in. But then no blood came out and they had to poke his other arm too and boy was he pissed. It's quick though.
Kayla ··
omg poor guy. She’s pretty tough so hopefully she will be fine

My daughter had her blood drawn for her 18 month appointment. She was upset about me holding her down and did not react to the needle lol
Kayla ··
Lol last time mine got her shots she didn’t cry so maybe I’ll get lucky again lol

From the arm. They'll more than likely make you hold her in your lap and hold her still while someone else holds her arm.
Kayla ··
she used to freak out bad but this last time she got a shot she didn’t even cry
scream.queen··
Well hopefully she'll do well then! Do they give prizes there afterwards? If they do, maybe you could show her what she gets after she sits there.
Kayla ··
I think the give them little fans
Stephanie·
My kids get their finger pricked.
Kayla ··
That sounds so much easier than the arm
Stephanie·
Oh man! I just read the comments 😬
Kayla ··
Lol I would much rather they do her finger
Stephanie··
I've never done headstart so I have no idea but their 2yr check-up was finger stick. If it is the arm, ask for a phlebotomist who does kids and is the best. If you are able, give Lord of juice and water before... Oh man my butt is tight for you!
Kayla ··
@scidg3, lmao I’m trying to see if my mom will sit with her haha
X·
They have a numbing spray that they can use! Not all Peds use them, but maybe you can ask! The less pain the better!
Kayla ··
Oh that’d be nice! I’ll ask about it lol
p·
My daughter freaked out, I was holding her on my lap and she screamed so hard that she peed on me ! So if she’s potty trained get ready with a pull up just in case lol
Kayla ··
Omg poor baby. Mines not potty trained yet. I guess that’s a good thing in this instance lol
Kayla ·
My son freaked out to I had to hold him real tight. They also usually have a bed they can lay her down and you hold your pretty much down if she freaks out. It’s super quick if they know what they are doing. It’s sad to watch but the quicker the better.
Kayla ··
@mommakayla18, oh man. Idk if kaiser does or not
Kayla ··
I would ask when you go in. I never asked. But try to hold her in the chair with the arm thing down and holding her tight with one arm and holding her arm out on the other. Hopefully they only need one tube of blood.
Kayla ··
@mommakayla18, okay. I hope so. They’re testing her hemoglobin and lead so idk
Kayla ·
It should be only one vial then
Kayla ··
I hope so. Do you pay out of pocket at quest?
Kayla ·
No they bill your insurance
Kayla ·
You just get the dr blood drawing request form for quest and take it there
Kayla ··
@mommakayla18, omg lol. I’m hoping to get her signed up for medi cal tomorrow
Kayla ··
that would be nice! They will cover her whole labs
Kayla ··
@mommakayla18, I hate dealing with medi cal
Kayla ·
Definitely! They are a pain
