Unpopular opinion:

Addiction, is a disease.

I do not believe it begins that way. Unless a substance has been forced upon someone (ie a pregnant woman does heroine causing baby’s body to need some sort of detox once born). Someone may be predisposed to addiction but ultimately, it has to start somewhere; with a choice and then a series of choices.

I agree that it is a disease, but it definitely starts with the choice of using. Not always in a "oh hey, wanna go get high?" Way. A lot of the time it starts right at the Drs office. Break your leg? Here's a Rx for the pain. Weeks later you are potentially hooked.

It's different when you have an addictive personality. People who don't can drink a glass of wine or a beer on Friday night. People with an addictive personality will aim for getting flucked up every single time they have a drink.

Oh hunny. The fact that you think I care what people think of me. Addiction is a change in brain and body chemistry and is a disease. It may start as a choice, but in the end it isn’t a choice. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ur cute, I love the color red where I wear or use it on everything, is that a disease then?? And I love cheese to the point of not shitting, is that a disease?? And ur joking lol just chat with her bc suboxone is sober apparently as it’s a known fact it’s suppose to be for getting sober and maintaining and not for a life time usage. Open ur damn minds and stop protecting something that can be stopped ur just feeding into addiction. I can go blow fb up and like I said hundreds of addicts and abt 10% would stay with ur argument and that’s bc they still have addiction issues. Addiction is wear u steal a died persons funeral money to support ur addiction not ur disease. Ur never gonna be opened minded so why even make the post besides to repeat the same 2 things and still not understand my points?? 🤔🤔🤔

@februarymomx2, I choose to smoke, the outcome of that is bc of choice and is addiction. And non of thoses things are drugs also, but things pple do get addicted to

@februarymomx2, and cancer can happen and kill pple how damn fast with nothing making it worse or causing it like most the time. Kids are born with it and they aren’t using cell phones and all that bullshit. I feel like ur fishing now. There doesn’t have to be a conclusion or reason for everything, there can be things beyond us like addiction js.

@februarymomx2 I think you are wasting your time trying to get pp to see your view of addiction. You both have your own opinion about it and that isn't going to change.

@bodybycheetos, I agree but last point there was a huge outbreak of crack addiction in the 80-90s but that was never and still never considered a disease bc u are smoking crack. Lol done. But thank you I agree, I do agree. To each their own

Almost every bag of dope has fentanyl in it anymore just matters how much, when pple choose to sniff/shoot bags that’s their choice just like picking it up in the first place was their choice. Then addiction falls into play, most pple with serious diseases don’t pick a certain thing to give them a disease that will kill them it’s more then a gamble now. It is not a shot in the dark u maybe might die for heroin anymore, I’ve had over 45+ kids I grew up with die from it, I’m 29. Even the ones remaining won’t even say it’s a disease bc they know they choose it and are the ones risking every bag bc they rather a high of the next bag which is addiction risk their life. Mind u, my friend from high school just killed a father n son bc he got high his choice and launched his car onto their car n killed 3 pple and he’s fully taking the charges bc he let his addiction overcome him. Pple with diseases don’t let it overcome them on purpose! Nor do they let it kill others bc ur actions, and if they do causes that the law puts them in jail for it. Also methadone and suboxone is not sober in no way shape form or fashion period!

So by your standards, HIV, lung cancer, liver disease, Hepatitis, those aren’t diseases. Choices lead to all of those. If you feel addiction isn’t a disease because of how it starts then I hope you feel those aren’t diseases because they all start as choices.

@bodybycheetos, it gets worse because we lost my daughter in February and my dad is fighting brain cancer. But she has been open and honest with me and when she feels an urge she calls me and we talk instead.

@ss3mom, the worst is when people die from detox. The sweating the shaking occasional seizures and they try to do it on their own because of the stigma. @phoebesmommy, I grew up seeing addiction and seeing the damage it does. I was offered a prescription of Oxys and knew if I took it I would like them and abuse them, so I went home on Tylenol. It takes a lot of self reflection to know what you can and cannot do. But education on the realities of addiction is so important.

Yes ugh. Pill popping is such a huge issue where I live. It’s so sad. I got so upset when I had my wisdom teeth out and the dr prescribed me vicoden and never told me I could try ibuprofen first!!!

I agree! I think at first it’s a choice but once the person is addicted it’s a disease. It literally changes their brains. I say at first it’s a choice because they choose to do the drug or drink whatever it is but then they become dependent on it and that’s when the disease takes over!

Exactly! And for some it starts because of a legitimate medical need for pain relief. Which turns into addiction because of how the human body and brain works.

@phoebesmommy it happens so fast sometimes, more definitely needs to be done, I didnt want to be a addict I hated my own mom at the time for it, i didnt mean to it was my choice to start drinking but i didnt have time to say ops i started drinking one day and for 3 days didnt stop, It was like crack there was no going back...I liked it then my boyfriend at the time got shipped away I was alone and miserable and it was a downhill battle.drinking leas to other things. By the time I got into rehab my bp was so high they said I should have been dead. I was 17/18 I was ashamed to tell ppl I didnt want stares and the looks from outsiders my whole body hurt I wanted to jump off a cliff, coming off felt worse then ever being on did. I'm now almost 25 and very clean but there still is days I have to sit and talk to myself about why I dont need to be that person, even though it's been years.

@phoebesmommy, same. My parents never talked to us about things like this. We always talked about alcohol because my moms mom was an alcoholic but she passed away when I was 6mths old. So drinking was a topic of discussion at our house but that’s it nothing else. I didn’t even know what pot was until I was in high school! And that’s because my parents never ever talked to us about drugs. I mean we learned some stuff in school but mainly “just say no to drugs” no more then that!!

@ss3mom, my cousin paid $600 a week for rehab. He had to pay that off until recently and he has been sober for three years.

@februarymomx2 i know not all insurances treat it as that, but i do know medicaid will pay for certain rehab treatments and addiction help. Because i have a close friend who used it. And i knew someone strugfling woth hiv who sadly passed 2 years ago but they covered majority of her expenses too. (If i mess up words sorry im on a phone im not used too and im lazy lol)

@briannalynn547, the issue also comes from the super limited number of beds in rehab center and halfway houses. People are rushed through the steps and sent home because it’s a for profit organization. All of the medical field is.
