Wish my brother would grow up :( he's 19 and doesn't act like it. He's a compulsive liar. We had a really bad childhood but that's no excuse...he stole a gun from my dad's gun cabinet...He's a truck driver. And sole it to a 16 year old, a family friend well his guardian found out and called my dad and my dad just don't know what to do anymore...he tries and tries but nothing. My brother was told he didn't have to leave but he had to leave that room where the guns were pad locked in a closet. He left anyway cause he was trying to act all big and bad. I don't know what to do. My dad is so mad and he has seizures. My step mom has tried to help him because we don't have any family around here besides my dad. Idk where he went I just hope he's okay. I can't have him staying with us because I have my son to take care of..and we have guns too and other stuff we worked hard for. I can't even form a complete thought cause I'm not sure what to do.

There’s going to have to be a point he your brother takes accountability for his actions regardless of ones upbringing, my mom lost both her parent’s when she was 11 yrs old with in 3 months of each other ,she was not motherly and not grandmother,”I learned to be a better parent and be the mother I always wanted to my 3 son’s , sometimes especially boys need pushing to get motivated to have a plan after high school

I know his childhood doesn't matter like I said in my paragraph. I told my step mom the only thing that's gonna work or might work is he's never gonna learn until something bad happens....i guess there's just no fixing him but let him run off on his own. He'll be back though cause he has no where to go. Just hope he doesn't get hurt in the streets

He’s an adult, he needs to reap the consequences of his actions. Let him leave🤷‍♀️

I agree. But he'll be back. He has no where to go.

The whole thing with the gun is scary because, if he’s making stupid choices at 19 to sell your dads gun to a 16 yr old, Does he realize if that 16 yr does anything with that gun he can be prosecuted as well ,did u know for example if someone tried to rob a bank and someone who worked there or was there had a heart attack because of it and died they would be charged with murder even if the didn’t shoot the person , so hope he realizes his actions can have dangerous consequences

I tried to explain to him how he could have just himself or those around him. Him and this 16 yo are so obsessed with being cool and with the crowd, they don't even know what they're doing. He's so stubborn though. You can watch him steal something and he'll swear up and down on his life that he didn't. He never tells the truth. I just don't know anymore 😕

Does he have mental issues from the abuse?

I’d look into that.

@mandehhhx3,

Those medications can alter the brain and can cause serious behavioral issues, especially if they were forced on him so young.

I’m sorry, this has to be hard for you and your brother. I hope he asks for help and he can live life, wishing happiness and healing for you both.

thank you so much! I know it seems like I'm trying to put it all on our childhood but he was still young when he had to go through a lot. I honestly don't know what to do anymore, neither does my dad.

You could call someone that can help people like him who aren’t safe for themselves and society, it seems unfair and awful but he can end up hurting himself or someone else, getting him help should be a priority even if you have to force him.

If he declines therapy that could be the next option.
