Anyone know what I can do for engorged breasts? Ive fed on both sides and pumped to try to empty them but they seem to stay hard and painful. Ive tried hand expressing and that doesn't do much either. I'll try a hot shower to soften things up in a little bit but is there anything else I can do to empty them? Pumping gets me about an ounce and a half from both breasts after she's fed for 20mins on each side, but I still feel full if that makes sense. The pump won't draw any more milk out either. I'm trying to keep encouraging milk production but they're so full all the time that my shirt touching them hurts. 😬

@rariszoo, doesn’t matter when it came in I had it when my son was a few days old. I’d keep an eye on it if it keeps hurting

When I was engorged in the beginning I would put a cold compress and it helped.

Ice packs helped me most of the time

It sort of comes with the territory the first few days I think. Your best tissue and skin is stretching to make accommodate the engorgement. Have you tried massaging your breast where they're hard while pumping? That's what I do to get the milk moving.

Yeah ive tried that. Im hoping they're just getting used to being full again. With my son I could at least get them to empty right so this is new for me. I'm hoping a hot shower and pumping session afterwards will help at least a little bit. We've got a family gathering to go to and I'm going to be so sore if I can't get some relief. 😬

What kind of pump? Are you pumping long enough to experience several let downs? If they are still full you may need to pump longer and may need a different pump.

Do you still plan on breastfeeding? I have a remedie that helps and it actually came from a nurse at the hospital when I had my first son. But it sucks up your milk and take. The pain away.
Its cold cabbage leaves you put the cabbage in fride, then you put about 2 or 3 leaves around each breast. And you actually can feel where its sucking up the milk. Then when the leaves are dark green and soggy like you take the off and do it again. Mind you it doesn't smell to pleasant but it helps. My advice to you. I have that problem with each pregnancy I get really bad engorgement and it hurts bad

I'm still going to breastfeed, I just need some relief from the pain because they're aching and throbbing even when nothing's touching them and my toddler wants to be on me any time I don't have the baby.

Cover your breastmilk bottles with baby socks. Turn on a good tv show and pump without watching how much milk youre getting. Also turn on like a Sappy or. Erotic movie lol

Also this will sound crazy but dont look at how much milk you're getting. Just relax and watch tv or read
