My daughter took her first independent steps at 20 months.
Early Intervention gave us a reverse walker to use to help her motor planning. She used the walker for about a month and then started taking independent steps after that.
I commented on your other post about how to contact Early Intervention.. it seriously was one of the best things I have ever done for my daughter
@watz, it was a long wait right? So nice to have a walking toddler but there will always be things that she’ll just need to work harder for. Was your daughter late with speech too? I know in our case the muscles for speaking even took a while to develop
i contacted early intervention when my daughter was 16 months old. By the time she was 18 months EI had evaluated her and we were given a DT, OT, and a PT. She would have qualified for Speech too but unfortunately our area didn't have an available Speech therapist. But our Developmental therapist worked with speech.
By 20 months she was walking and starting to talk.
You're right, she will always need to work a littke bit harder at some things, but she's a happy girl and i know she will achieve anything she puts her mind to.
She almost 4 years old now, and has been walking and running for awhile. She also loves to jump and is working on skipping
