I need some advice on a problem I’m having with my sons daycare . When he first started there was a decent amount of children, 2 teachers and 1 director , they received homework regularly, and played outside (to my knowledge), although my son wasn’t speaking clearly yet at the time so I’m not sure. Since then, they fired his teacher, the director always has an excuse for why they don’t play outside, they don’t eat the healthiest of foods (although she claims they follow strict guidelines) , they hardly have any children now, they stopped receiving homework, and the provider always closes when her 1 teacher can’t come in because she has arthritis and can’t watch the kids alone.. I pay a very fair price, but I feel like my son deserves better 😬 am I asking too much? Or are these legitimate reasons to want to move him elsewhere ? Also how would u address the situation? I’ve asked her numerous times why they don’t play outside and it’s always excuse after excuse .... and gets annoyed when I ask her about the food menu.

Without question I would pull him out. No explanation needed. Anytime you have more questions than answers it's time to move on. He is in a poor excuse for a daycare and yes, you have every right to want to move on!!! So sorry mama!!!

@domsmama96 Google daycares in your local area. Make a list, call each one and take a tour. Ask questions. See if they have drop in slots or require full time, ask about scholarships and financial aid assistance. There are many who will work with you. Better to go with a full on daycare and not a home daycare bc they are more regulated. Sadly even then we are taking chances. I hope you find a good place. As for your son, he will adjust, hard as it will be for both of you and his safety and well being are more important than any difficulty adjusting to a new place might bring. Best of wishes for you!!!!

thank you so much for all your encouragement mama , it’s really helping as I head out to tour a nearby daycare.

You're welcome! It's not easy and I have been there. Both of mine just started daycare last month after a two year search and my smallest just turned one. I returned to worked after an extended leave and have been so sad, but knowing they are safe is my first goal. Hugs mama!

That’s your son, if you even have a doubt about, pull him out and go elsewhere

Yes pull him out. Idk what state you're in but in some states going outside is a mandatory part of keeping your license. Ask if you can send your own foods in the meantime. Also depending on the ratio that may be why she is closing when one teacher calls out. I wouldn't even bother addressing the situation; I wouldn't want her taking it out on your child just line up new care and give proper notice. If she asks why you're leaving at that point tell her the truth. And if there is a way to review her online do that once you're gone to give other parents fair warning

The fact that she gets annoyed speaks volumes. Any loving parent would want to know all the ins abd outs and the care provider should welcome that questioning parent

Pull him out. With the closing thing you can only have a certain amount of kids with only 1 teacher in order to be legal. In my in home day care the ratio for 1 teacher was 6-1. 12-2 if there were that many any more than 12 we would need a 3rd person to be legal. However idk why she would use an excuse for that when that’s a huge guideline to go by and I’ve had to keep my son home many times because of ratio. But still everything else is sketchy and I’d pull my son too 🤷🏼♀️ I’m actually dealing with day care crap right now as well 🙃

@domsmama96, yeah I would just pull him cause it’s really not hard to make healthy meals for the kids. We whipped up healthy meals every single day. Outside play is super important and also not hard either you get their shoes on open the door and go outside that’s it.

@bubbys.mommy, exactly, and she always has an excuse “it’s too cold, it’s too hot, the yard is dirty” etc etc .. they eat pop tarts, hot pockets , chefboyardee, mini hamburgers (not made there I’m sure) sandwiches (which I don’t mind) .

ew! My boss would go as far as making her dinner for her family but make a larger amount to feed the kids for lunch. So like she made chili once and doubled it to feed her school kids. Everything was healthy the kids always had one grain, a dairy, a veggie and fruit or two veggies and always milk and of course a protein. Like I missed the grain and gave 2 proteins on accident one day and she was on us about it. Like even just making peanut butter and jelly isn’t hard. Bread is grain jelly is fruit peanut butter is protein and she’d serve a veggie and milk with it.
