Ive had cold sores since 15 i believe, my boyfriend forgot to tell me he had cold sores and in result gave them to me we are still together because the doctor told me cold sore were VERY common.
But now we have a.kid together and ive seen so many articles and no one eases my mind. I religiously wash my hands place abreva on and put a medical mask over my mouth, sanatize literally anything i use and the baby uses with lysol spray and soap and hot water to prevent my lil one from getting them and my boyfriend rarely has cold sores. But im in constant fear that my son will grab at my mask touch the sores and get them himself it happens i know and the pediatrician said 80% of the world including babies/ toddlers get coldsores. I am hoping there are some moms here that can give me an insight on what its like to have a child that does have cold sores so that IF my child has one god forbid so i can be prepared. My dr told me its only contagious when present but ill be extra careful i dont let no one other than my boyfriend drink or eat from the same bottle or fork from me

I believe it can be contagious even with no symptoms.
It can be scary but it happens.
@mamaste it is and i try so hard to prevent my lil angel from having them but if 80+% of the world has this then how can i? I cant just shelter him from everything.
My daughter is 3.5 she grabbed my chaps tick and used it when she had a cold. I haven't even had a cold sore since before she was born. Well the next morning she woke up with a cold sore. All I could do was put abreva on it. It sucks bevause I know the tingling feeling of when a cold sore is coming on but my 3.5 year old can't really tell me. She's had one more since :(
Thank you i try to keep all my chapsticks away from my child but i keep forgetting which ones i used for coldsores and which ones for just chapped lips so i end up throwing all the chapstick.
@sweetangelbaby I didn't even use mine when I had a cold sore. The virus is always present on your lips even when your not having a breakout. Shouldn't share chaps ticks, keep tooth brushes separate, no kissing on the lips at all even when not in a out break. Don't feed from your fork, just a few things I should have been more cautious with.
