Remember doing ama’s?! Ask me anything? U ladies want to do this today? What about an ama about veterinary medicine? Me and @icebergahead, are vet techs so if u have any questions about your dogs or cats ask away. She may know more about rodents haha. We used to love doing these on bb!! So ask away

Oooh I love this! Any recommendations for a good dog breed to raise with my 4.5? My daughter is allergic to cats; Should I have her tested for dogs? We can't decide if we should get a dog for her before we start trying for #2 or if we should hold off until we have #2 in the next year or two
Ss3mom··
@sweetpeaflower, ugh I freaking love cavs!! Especially the Black and Tan ones. They are my fav!!! Golden doodles are crazy!! My sister and niece have them and they didn’t train them right and they are nuts!! It’s their fault though because they didn’t know what to do with the dogs when they got them. They never trained the dogs!! It’s so annoying haha
Mommy··
silly sisters lol. untrained dogs are so annoying and doodles can be very reserved or nuts lol.
Ss3mom··
I know and it decide me nuts no one ever consults me before getting a dog. Like for real. At least ask me a few questions first lol

Your a vet tech! Omg how lucky. That’s like my dream ❤️❤️ I’m definitely going to keep that in mind because our pets seem to come up with little things that worry me lol just found out why my pup has little fed what looks like bite marks all over her belly were
Ss3mom··
I was. I’ve been out of the field for almost 7 years but my 18 years of experience has left me with a lot of knowledge on the subject. Ask me anytime

I just want to say thank you for helping me with my kitten. She’s doing way better. Her eyes are clearing up and her check up went great. She’s running around very active. Eating every 6 hours ( still bottle feeding)
Ss3mom··
Awesome! So happy she’s doing better
Ss3mom··
Conjunctivitis is very common in kittens. So I’m very happy her eyes are doing better too.

To pet or not to pet?
My GSD gets severe anxiety during thunderstorms (and fireworks, etc.) - panting, pacing, whining, will not leave your side, and she actively listens for storm sounds. So even if it thunders once like 30 miles away, she's worked up for at least an hour.
When she gets like this, should I try to comfort her? Or will that only reinforce her negative behaviors? Also, any suggestions for behavior modification/anxiety relief in these circumstances? We've tried the thunder shirt, ignoring behavior, holding/comforting, giving her a "safe space", distractions, and one type of anxiety chew. But she's still pretty bad, which will be rough once baby is trying to sleep in our room with her.🤔
Ss3mom··
@sweetpeaflower, I totally forgot about those collars!! Are u a vet tech also?
Mommy··
just a dog/cat groomer with 12yrs experience. I just started a new job at an old bosses salon. I’m enjoying all the dog cuddles. I wish I went to school for vet tech.
Ss3mom··
aww that’s cools though. I hated grooming I had to do a lot of that when I started out, I didn’t go to school just kind of landed in the job and it was my career for 18 years

Kittens and litter box training
Ss3mom··
Did u just get the kitten? Is the litter box cleaned regularly and somewhere she has access to? I’m sure she does. I’d just keep putting her in there but not if she’s scared of it ya know? Is it covered or uncovered? She may prefer either one so u may need to see which one she likes. Is she peeing and pooping around the house? How old is she/he?
Yo mama·
What’s the safest way to socialize my dog? She basically has anxiety around other dogs. She shakes, whines, barks and panics. She was attacked by another dog at the shelter before we got her. I want to take her with us instead of always boarding her. I’m just afraid she will become aggressive if we take her near another dogs because she’s so terrified.
Yo mama··
@ss3mom, ok. Makes sense. She’s a pit bull and was attacked by another pit bull. We want to take her camping with us, to the beach or even on walks. Maybe to the dog park. I’d like to even take her to the vet without having to take her through the back. I feel horrible because once we get to the kennel she starts freaking out. So even if we do have to board her I’d like her to be more comfortable in that situation.
Ss3mom··
what about a little sedative for when taking her to the vet. I mentioned it in a comment above. It’s called acepromazine. U can start with a low dose and see how it goes. My pit mix couldn’t be boarded without sedatives. She was at my work for a night and she ripped her toenail digging at the cage. I think though the more u expose her to other dogs the better she will be. But again very slowly and cautiously
Mommy··
Pheromones could really help her feel safe and be less afraid along with all this great advice

Can I dye my dog’s butthole black?
Jk 😂 she’s completely black but every time we get her groomed all you see is a pink butthole and it’s unsettling.
Mommy··
So cute
Ss3mom··
we called them dingle berries hahaha
Mommy··
yes 😂

Can my neighbor give her cat human antibiotics? In tiny doses since she can’t afford a vet?
west side~momma··
@ss3mom, not sure at least 10
Ss3mom··
I def wouldn’t just give the cats meds without a vet note or authorization
Mommy··
Maybe call the local shelters and see if there are any volunteer vets around or surrender of a cat :(

How do I get my 6 month old pup to not be so over excited when he comes inside? He runs around like a psycho and won't settle. I just firmly and repeatedly tell him to sit on his bed, he will for a few minutes then is back to pacing the house.
Ss3mom··
@mamagunn.no.1, so I googled kelpies. They are extremely high energy. Does he have a job to do outside? I saw they are herding dogs. Making sure he has plenty of room to run around outside is key with this type of breed. I’d try the treats first. Then u may need to do some obedience training with him. He’s still a pup too but I’d imagine with his breed they are high energy well into adulthood dogs!!! Does he have a crate? Like have u crate trained him? If not I’d highly suggest that. Maybe after going outside he has to sit to get his treat them he can go chill in his crate to calm himself down for a little bit before letting him run around the house!! Everything mentioned on google was just how energetic they are haha. U may have many years before he slows down!!
Just Another Spider Riding Aussie 🕷🇦🇺··
yes they are EXTREMELY high energy! Lol I've had a kelpie before and she took 10 years to find her chill 😂 she was pretty good at coming inside though. He doesn't have a job, like herding, but he has a massive backyard, lots of stimulating toys and we have a massive lake across from us with a dog obstical course that we take him to every afternoon. I haven't tried crate training but I'm thinking that might be the way to go! We treat train but with his energy, it doesn't always work lol he's picked up pretty much everything we've taught him really quickly, it's just the coming in and calming down enough to chill with us. Thank you for the advice, I'm going to look into crate training more 😊
Ss3mom··
@mamagunn.no.1, yes I would do that. Make it a nice safe space and don’t close the door. Have a big bed and maybe a bone or chew toy ya know?
