My one year old stands in time out (using the time matching age method) when she does something wrong and yes she stays there without being forced (took some teaching but she caught on) she KNOWS when she’s doing something she’s not supposed to. I’m tired of people saying kids will be kids and letting their kids run rampant. Discipline young because it won’t be cute when your 8 year old hits you or bites another child. And don’t say but they don’t listen to me. Kids will be who you teach them to be. They don’t listen because parents aren’t consistent. Your kids are smart they know how to play you. Follow through and don’t give up. Let’s stop raising assholes.
THIS ISN’T DIRECTED AT ANYONE JUST A PSA because I feel like parents are shamed into letting their kids be wild due to this sissy parenting movement.

I’ve started timeouts as well. Except we have a timeout chair

I agree with everything you are saying but I want to know. What behavior does your one year old need correcting for? My youngest is 15 months and she only “misbehaves” if she’s tired, hungry, sick, or wants to be cuddled. Nothing that I feel needs to be corrected. She can’t communicate well with words so she has to communicate in other ways. I started time outs with my oldest around 2 when she could communicate clearly and she is now a very well behaved 5 year old.

@jmedina, every child is different I totally get that. My daughter isn’t in timeout often! It only takes once or twice before she catches on. And I always take in account if she’s doing something out of ignorance or out of spite and both at met accordingly if she sees something new and just wants to explore okay we can check it out together and set limits from there but if I say no a couple times and she stares me straight in face and continues then alright we go to timeout for not listening and it’s one freaking minute. Not like I make her stand in the corner for hours.

my response was actually to the other lady posting here Haha, I guess it didn't tag her name. I totally agree, all my kids got corrected before 2, just some more often than others like my toddler lol.

Yeah I debated turning the comments off but I want people to express themselves too. Because I’m not saying I’m the best parent out there. But I do know that our children come into the world with nothing and we have to give everything including the sense to behave!

We started time out early too! She is very well behaved for her age. We get compliments on her all the time. She is also at a higher development level so I feel that helps.

Same! My child is happy, healthy and loved beyond measure. Part of that love just includes enforcing boundaries we have set as a family. People don’t believe me when I say she’s only one because of how well she listens/behaves. I just wanted to share that if you want a behavior corrected it can be done. If you don’t then great fine, keep scrolling 🤷🏽♀️
