Went to our first doctor appointment and she said she doesnt encourage me breastfeeding past 20 weeks because nipple stimulation causes the uterus to contract. My question is how many of you breastfed throughout your whole pregnancy?

Someone posted the other day about how she was still pumping and she was 30 something weeks. I don’t recommend going against what your doctor says tho. Too each their own.

I breastfed up until like 33 weeks. Never had any cramping or spotting. A lot of ladies have tandem nursed and didn’t have early labor or anything.

My doctor recommended I stop at 20 weeks also when I was pregnant with my daughter. I contemplated continuing because I’ve known several people that were told by their doctors it was ok to continue during their entire pregnancy. I ended up stopping though because my milk production slowed tremendously during pregnancy anyways and my son was not satisfied.

I did. They recommended I stop early on, I said no, but I will slow down and I did, but I continued 2x a day feedings throughout. I even nursed my toddler after my water broke 😂. I stopped when baby was about 2months old though, it was just too hard at bedtime with them both (and she was 3, so she had her fair share).

Do you have a history or preterm labor?

@mommahay, then there isn’t really a huge concern. Unless you have other medical issues this pregnancy that could lead to preterm labor this time as well. If you want to continue to breastfeed, tell your doctor that. And ask them for advice on how to do so safely or ask if maybe consulting a lactation consultant on the matter would be a better fit since that’s their specialty. You don’t have to stop if there’s no other risk factors. A lot of times doctors who don’t specialize in a certain thing give just general info instead of user specific info that’s relevant to YOUR case. It’s ok to want to continue and to seek advice from someone who understands it more. It is not going against their medical advice. It is getting specific suggestions based on your body and situation. I hope this helps!

of course! And then just coordinate care with your OB or midwife so you’re all on the same page. ☺️ good luck! I know a few mommas who have nurses the whole time, and I know others who tried and dried up around the 20-30 week marks.
