Is verbal abuse as bad as physical abuse? Do you think we as a society overlook verbal abuse?

I think it's just as bad. I've been in a verbal abusive relationship and a physical one. The verbal one when i was 100lbs he would insult me constantly telling me I was still too fat, i never did what he wanted when all i did was what he asked. He accused me of cheating on him because I got into contact with an old friend from high school. He would take my things and go through them. And when he knew I was going to leave him he tried trapping me. He tried getting me pregnant but failed. He yelled at me because I wouldn't let him rape me. And by that I mean that I stopped taking my insomnia medication because it seemed he was up to shit. And I was right. He was trying to mess with me in my sleep. Now no matter how bad I have issues sleeping I wont take anything for it. I flinch involuntarily still when my boyfriend and I are playing around and if I even think I see him I have a massive panic attack. Its awful

reading this just brings flashbacks of moments in my current relationship 😕 nothing I do is ever right. Anyone I talk to, I must be cheating (so I don’t talk to anyone anymore) He goes through EVERYTHING!! He got me pregnant on purpose (refused to wear condoms and when I said I didn’t want to have sex, berated me with verbal abuse and insults about being a ho and screwing other people) He’s constantly on my case because I don’t want to have sex, but he tries to force himself inside anyways.

He won’t let me work. He controls all of the money. We even have a joint account now so he sees what I spend it on. He doesn’t like me to have visitors. He fights with me if I want to go anywhere (friends/family) He tells me that taking care of her is my job so he doesn’t really help (only financially)

It’s tough man

then you need to leave immediately. Do you want your kids to think that this is how you should live? Or do you want them to grow up learning how to truly be loved? I know it is easier said than done but it is important that it gets done asap. If you feel like he is going to force himself on you call the cops immediately, go to a womans shelter. Get legal advice, find. Family to help you. It will be hard at first but in the long run it will be worth it

Verbal abuse can take a toll on you and your mind. It can make you think horrible things. I have seen someone go through it and it was heartbreaking. I think a lot overlook verbal abuse because they think it’s not real or because you aren’t being beat, it’s not as bad.

Yes, verbal abuse is just as bad and even can be worse than physical abuse.

Definitely many people overlook verbal abuse, especially spouses, elders, and parents in my experience.

I’ve been verbally abused my whole life by family and those I love.

I still remember everything that was said and every time I try to forget it makes me feel stuck and helpless.

I think verbal is worse . Bring you to the point where you wanna physically hurt yourself .

I deal with it with my daughter’s father and can honestly say, when I try to reach out (even to my closest friends) everybody says “oh ignore it” or “just agree with him and move on” Definitely a terrible thing to go through & outsiders will never understand the severity because the abuser usually does it behind closed doors and acts entirely different in front of them 😔

Sending well wishes your way 🙏🏽💕

I’m sorry you have to go through it. I’ve been in a verbal and emotional abusive relationship for over 10 years and finally got out of it. I was being abused and still the blame was put on me for the relationship ending. Now I’m in a healthy relationship and he’s helping me build myself back up. I hope you find happiness soon for you and your daughter. 💖💕

Yes verbal abuse also causes emotional abuse it causes a lot more damage than physical abuse with physical abuse the person can be taken out of the environment and get help with moving on from such traumatic experiences but when it’s verbal and emotional abuse it’s harder to help the person understand that that abuse was not their fault and how to move on from it it’s hard to change someone’s emotions and thinking after they’ve been abused in such a way

I think verbal abuse is worse, just because physical pain eventually leaves but you replay and repeat the words you were told. I’m not saying physical abuse isn’t bad though

Yes it is. And yes we do. I personally do it without thinking.[not like mean mean but I definitely speak my mind alot] I been trying to work on it. Verbal abuse is mentally draining on someone and can put them in a shity place in there own head
