Husband wanted to know why pineapples are called pineapples so I researched and it was very interesting learning about.
Pineapple was the name given to a fruit know as ananas meaning “excellent fruit” by almost every other major global language and it was debated wether to call the fruit a pineapple or ananas.
South America called this fruit “piña de indes” meaning “pine of the Indians” because the fruit resembled a pine cone.
Pineapple was already an English word before it was the name of the popular fruit.
Pineapple describes what we now refer to as pine cones and the name was officially changed to pine cone once the fruit was named pineapple to avoid confusion between the two.
Mind blown lol.
