♥ Trigger Warning: Postpartum Depression♥
♥️ Trigger Warning: Postpartum Depression♥️
I wish everyone’s OB was as good as mine. At both my postpartum visits/checkups, he was soooo adamant about making sure I’m mentally sound, and not suffering from any kind of postpartum depression. He knew I didn’t want a boy, and being that we waited until birth to find out the gender, he was concerned. I, thankfully, didn’t have major gender disappointment. But, he said gender disappointment is extremely common (and okay!), and sometimes that can lead to postpartum depression. I told him that I, thankfully, have never had any issues with anxiety or depression (another leading cause..”if you’ve had it before pregnancy, you’re more likely to have it after.”) in my life. I have very strong mental health. Thank God! But, he just kept telling me that he is here, and I need to call or come in (“don’t even bother with an appointment! Just come in.”) if I had any suspicions. He was just so kind, and sooo firm about making sure I was all good mentally.
I remember with my first child, they only asked me ONE TIME, and it was all right before we were discharged from the hospital to go home. (“And any signs of postpartum depression? No? Okay.”) Like, wtf! I wasn’t even home yet! I should have been asked at my postpartum checkup. But, since I didn’t have any issues, it didn’t even cross my mind as weird until just now.
These doctors need to be more on-top of the subject. These doctors need to touch base more than once in the first few months to check and make sure mom is doing okay.
I mean..im not even a professional and even I’m aware that new moms have just gone through a huge, and sometimes traumatic, experience. Our hormones are out of wack, and they remain wonky for monthssss.
It’s nobodies fault.
Now that I’ve seen both sides: Once case where I was only briefly asked once rather casually, and then another case where I was asked multiple times and with sincere compassion, I swear I’ll do more reaching out to friends.
We never know if our friends and loved ones have a wonderful doctor like I did this go-around, or if they have a doctor like my first that didn’t really bother with the topic.
I’m taking it into my own hands now to bring the topic up. We need to all do better.
The USA is the most dangerous country to give birth in out of all of the developed counties.
That speaks volumes.
If you need to talk, I AM HERE.

girl, you’re a genius. I’ve not given him any breast milk bottles since we talked, and his colic is almost completely gone. Now he only has a “witching hour“ for about an hour in the evening. You literally saved my sanity! 🙌🏼
