Just wondering if anyone knows, do you get a couple days of leave to come home after Navy boot camp before being sent to tech school? My little brother is going into the Navy and his recruiter isn’t very helpful at all. Him and I have tons of questions.

My brother and sister are in Air Force. My brother left next day after boot camp to tech. And my sister's didn't start for a couple weeks so she had to stay at the boot camp base and wait it out

We are also dealing with a navy recruiter right now. My sd joined and leaves for basic in August. That’s one thing we haven’t asked yet, but I’m sure the recruiter will tell us if we ask. He’s been super helpful. I will have her ask tomorrow.

I’m so glad yours has been a help to you! Please, let me know! I feel so lost about everything, his recruiter keeps us as out of the loop as possible! Ugh!

It really depends. I was in the Air Force a million years ago. For me I was shipped immediate from boot camp to tech school. That being said...I believe it depends on whether or not there is a vacant spot or class ready to go for him. If it is a long wait they may allow him time to go home. If it is a short wait, a week or so, they may ship him straight. It would cost them money to ship him home and bring him back. But every branch is different and boot camp/tech school was 19 years ago for me! Omg I’m so old 😒

@mommabrina, you and your brother have every right to want to know everything. If what he wants to know is when will be the first time he can come home to visit, well it more than likely will be after tech school or after he graduates and reaches his first base assignment. Again, depending on how much time has past they may consider it. If his tech school is long, over a year, there may be some holidays in there that they allow you to go home. Also, generally after boot camp they are more relaxed. So he may be able to entertain visitors when he’s in tech school, although he may still be on curfew in the beginning. Ask recruiter as many questions as you can. Anything and everything. If recruiter isn’t helpful ask if there are others you can speak with. Like if there is a fresh graduate who is visiting that you can be connected with. Usually there is always some newbie floating around they can pull.
Nuclear Engineering—-Will his tech school be at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri?

thank you for your kind words, I’ll definitely be asking if there’s someone else we can talk to.
And no, they mentioned he’ll likely do a year or two in North Carolina, but they never mentioned a specific base so who even knows.
