I’m having trouble hand expressing and pumping. I have always had trouble pumping, but at least with hand expressing I would get 2oz from each. Now, I can barely get one. My daughter is almost 5 months, so I started giving her oatmeal. But I can’t get enough milk to make it. I started mixing formula in it but she doesn’t like it. I’m still breastfeeding and I planned on doing it for a long while. Am I not producing enough milk anymore? I don’t understand why I’m having trouble because she’s still growing. But she has been wanting the boob a lot more. I assumed it was because she’s teething, but what if I’m not producing enough?

She's growing and her need for more milk will cause her to nurse more which will in turn increase your supply. Natural supply and demand here. As long as she is growing and having enough diapers you're giving her enough milk. Pumping and nursing produce different supply. Baby does best!

Thank you. I was wondering how can I get the most out of pumping and expressing. Because the oatmeal is the first thing we’re introducing her to and she likes it best when it’s made with breast milk.

I started using water for my baby's oatmeal right away. I nurse her before I feed her and after if she is still thirsty/hungry. She just turned 1 on Friday. I had to pump exclusively 5/7 months with my first and with this one she has never taken a bottle and I have barely touched my pump (thank God). I had to find my way and adapted as needed when I found what worked for me. I know that is vague but you will also find your special way. Sounds like she is doing great!
