@tinyhumansbitch, ask what the deposit policy is when he signs the check over to you. If he signed it to you, normally it’s yours.

if anything they could have said, sorry we can’t accept this check, and could you have the account holder come in. We can’t give you any more information, since he’s not on the account.

I'd call or go in to the bank and tell them about it. It should be striagtened out especially if you go in and tell them the situation. Alot banks who allow other people to deposit a check under their name if it's not a joint account with their name on it also unless you both sign the back of the check
