Story time - a couple I used to work with adopted a little girl that had leukemia. The moms took their daughter to Disney one day back in 2012/2013. She was having a “good day” but she was still very sick. Wellllll, there was a measles outbreak at Disneyland during their visit. The poor little girl came down with Measles on top of leukemia!!! Good news is, is she ended up recovering from both the measles AND the cancer. What a brave, strong child, right?!
THIS is why vaccinations should be mandatory. There are elderly people and sick children who cannot be vaccinated. It’s our responsibility as a member of our communities to do the right thing.

This makes me wonder if it was near the time my coworker’s kiddo got measles at Disneyland! So sad how the ‘happiest place on earth’ has become some place to worry and fear about going with kids who can’t be vaccinated or have any sort of immune problems. That is so heartbreaking but I am so glad she recovered from both! What a trooper for sure!!

@gecko_mom, probably so! You can even google “Disneyland Measles Outbreak” and find old news on it. So unfortunate.

:/ Are you and your son immune? I am a bit freaked out about there being cases reported in LAX when we fly in on Saturday but I know I had to have a vaccine for it less than 10 years ago for college and my son got two dose already due to having two different shot schedules because two different country requirements. Made me feel a bit better when I realized this.

@wolfemama18, maybe you can talk to your son’s dr and ask to get it early? My co-work’s son got measles when he was just a few months old at Disneyland and it was terrifying to say the least!

@wolfemama18, no because he was too young for MMR yet. I think he was only like 3 months old or so at the time? :/ This was a few years ago as he is going to be 5 this year I think but he was on the news with his parents and everything!
No way?! I’m not leaving my house now. Legit. My baby isn’t old enough to get the measles vax yet.

@cowgirl2790, that’s scary😳why a year why can’t it be younger😭sorry if it’s a dumb question but how do they get the measles is it from eating something, touching something, etc?
@youngmommy18, idk why it’s a year. I just looked it up and that’s what I found. And that’s also when my older two got theirs.

@youngmommy18 It's not a dumb question!! 😊 Someone who is infected with the virus can spread it when they sneeze and the droplets spread in the air and then someone breaths it in and can get infected, it's always by contact as well.
