Hey guys so I’m looking for a little breastfeeding / pumping advice!

I intend on trying to breastfeed and pump as well, I’d like to have bottles for my fiancé to be involved for her feedings as well, especially since I won’t always be home.

When (how many weeks old) did you begin pumping and incorporating bottles in, while still breastfeeding? I’m not quite sure how it will work with both.

And from what I understand, I should pump between normal breast feedings for the rest of my supply that will go into bottles.

Any insight would be real helpful, thanks!

* I’ll add that at least 2 evenings a week I’ll be at work and I don’t want her being fully dependent on me putting her to bed. And just losing her mind anytime dad tries putting her to sleep. Because it just won’t work. so I’ll have to pump to have bottle for him to feed her and put her to bed some nights. Because I won’t be home till a couple hours later. I’m going back @6-8 weeks

Look for a bottle thats compatible with nursing. We like Avent bottles.

Wait to introduce a bottle until you and baby have the hang of it. If you want to build up a stash youll never have as much milk as you do when it first comes in so that's a good time to pump a lot.

Keep in mind though your body is trying to regulate to how much milk baby needs. The more removed from the breast the more the body will make. Once I used up my stash.i just pumped every few hrs at work and baby would have that milk the next day.

I started pumping and trying to incorporate a bottle at 1 month old.

While on maternity leave, I would pump 1x extra a day between feeds. I found pumping overwhelming and it was hard on my mental health, but some people will tell you to pump after every nursing session to build a stash faster. I didn’t have to go back to work until 12 weeks, so I took a little longer to build a stash, but had enough when I needed it.

Bottles didn’t go over well for my son. I had to physically be out of the apartment and even then after taking them fine for my husband for a few weeks, right before I went back to work my son stopped taking bottles altogether for a bit. He “dealt” with bottles and wouldn’t go hungry, but very much preferred me and no amount of time with anybody else changed that.

My lactation consultant told me not to start pumping for at least 2 weeks. I fed baby on demand while I was on maternity leave and that didn’t leave much milk for pumping so I went through my stash pretty quickly when I started work.

I didn’t give baby a bottle until a few weeks before I went back to work she was around 3 months old.

To keep my husband involved with feeding it was his job to burp her.
