So my two year old doesn’t talk much. He can’t really put together and say words other than simple words like mama, hey, daddy etc. we had an appointment today with an ENT to see if he was having any issues with his ears which could cause a speech delay, turns out he just has a REALLY bad tongue tie. They are scheduling the appointment to clip it within the next 3-4 weeks. The doctor said it’s a really quick & easy 20 minute surgery... but they have to put him under and I’m honestly so nervous about that. They also said because he’s a little older and has already memorized his tongue movements the way his tongue is, he’s gonna have to basically relearn how to use his tongue and he’s gonna have to go to speech therapy. I feel awful that I never noticed it before now... has anyone went through this?
My son didn’t have the tongue tie but he had severe fluid in his ears that we didn’t know about. He had to be put under at 2 and get tubes. The surgery was quicker than they said but he’s 3 now and speech therapy has made the world of a difference. He is a chatterbox now.
I’m really hoping fixing his tongue tie and a little speech therapy will do the trick! My poor little guy is seriously a frustrated and angry child because you can tell he really tries so hard to talk but he can’t.
I have absolutely no idea what tongue tie even looks like . I know about it from seeing people say it caused latching issues etc, but I never knew what it looked like or what exactly it was .
