My brother in-law unfortunately is locked up and has been since I found out I was pregnant, my son is now 16 months old and my husband (his brother) myself and our son go every week to visit, it’s exhausting, but in Australia ur in a open room and they have a kid corner and child care workers and endless toys and art and craft for them and vending machines for snacks and drinks, so it does make it a lil easier for the kids, if I had to sit behind glass then I wouldn’t go every week. Depending on the crime and if ur wanting to have him in ur life or ur sons then Family is family and every bit of support can help them. Maybe go by urself first and see how it is before u decide ? Talk to him face to face and get a sense of if he is genuine?

It really depends what his in there for I guess . I've been around many ex convicts growing up and most lie when locked up talking about they'll change their life around and blah blah blah ..next thing you know they're out doing the same bullshit...i use to tell my babies dad that if he ever got locked up that I wouldn't take out son (when he was a baby) to see him ..because I knew if he would've got locked up it would've been for his dumb actions ..so it's like u chose to do bad instead of good to stay out with your son ...sorry for the Long ass comment but thought I'd share my experience a bit ..

I've worked in a jail, and always felt bad for the young children that came. Depending on the jail they loose all their privacy and have to be searched, or go through a metal detector. They also can't bring anything into the visit and are expected to stay respectful and quiet for an hour which is near impossible for a child. Not to mention they only see the person behind a glass. I think sending pictures and letting him hear him on the phone in the privacy of your home is a better option

Nope. I wouldn't bring the baby, but I'd send photos.

I would not. There’s no way I’d bring my child to a jail. Guess if he wanted to see his son he shouldn’t have partaken in criminal behavior that ended up getting him locked up. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I mean you can take him to visit dad. It wouldn’t hurt. Hopefully bd gets his act together .

I don't think it's a bad idea, especially if he was active in his life.. Like you said your baby is too young to even realize where he's at 🤷🏻‍♀️

That’s a personal decision.. I personally wouldn’t take my kids into a jail.

I think you should consider it. It might motivate him to do better in life and make some positive changes. Everybody makes mistakes, and if you feel comfortable with it, I think you should. It’s not like your dropping your son off. You will be with him the whole time and your son is not old enough to recognize or even understand what jail is... now you did say he called saying he misses you also. I would be careful about letting him back in too much too quickly. I would probably just make the visit about your son and him building a relationship with his father.

@mama_of_1 that is a valid point.

That's a tough question. I guess it would depend on what he's in there for. Being able to communicate and see his son might help give him motivation to straighten his life out.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking too, he was a very active father before he got locked up & genuinely loves my son so much so I feel if I bring him up there at least once or twice it’ll make him feel some type of way & like u said make him want to straighten up his life when he gets out.

I don't think looking up to someone who is in jail for committing crimes is generally a good idea, I don't think a jail is a place for a child, I would want my spouse to wish he had never put himself in that position in the first place, and I wouldn't want my spouse to think I'm going to support that lifestyle. I'm speaking very generally. There may be reasons I would make an exception, but I would have to know all of the circumstances and think more into it.

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?

@itsamemario, you deleted your post before I could hit send but this is my comment: I don’t know if this answers your question but this is my answer. My son is 7 and he knows race and color. Why? Because he himself comes from a family that is multi racial and because he has already experienced racism. I also believe as his mother it’s my job to teach him color and the cold hard truth about society. He knows what’s going on in this world. I’d be hurting him if I allowed him to blindly walk outside without this information. Children of color are being targeted and killed too. It’s not just adults. I let my son know we treat everyone equally and with respect. I let him know that we love everyone for their differences. In every aspect. Color, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual preference we love everyone.
