So most birth control options say "do not take this product if you have, or have had blood clots." Asked my doctor about it, well one of the rotating doctors. My clots were in a superficial vein and there were two of them. She said since they weren't in a major vein there's still a risk the medication would cause clots, but it's lower than if I had deep vein thrombosis, and that the benefits outweigh the risks. Would you go ahead with it? The only benefit is not getting pregnant obviously. The risk is a blood clot that may turn into deep vein thrombosis. She didn't give me like actual percentages of getting a blood clot or not. Just said it's "a reduced risk" since they were superficial clots. She seemed very nonchalant about the clot stuff, basically blew over it, and seemed to be really pushing the whole idea of birth control. (I'm 23, this is my second, completely planned). I know I can't take estrogen based birth control. But she said I could use either the shot, arm implant, or certain IUD devices. Should I talk to another doctor? I know it's a "reduced" risk but I currently have to take baby aspirin to reduce the chances of blood clots while I'm pregnant. I just don't know if she's just pushing it because that's what she thinks I need to do because I'm younger or what? My high risk doc hasn't said anything about it, and neither have the other doctors I've seen but this one did. I told her between having my son and concieving this baby that we used condoms and tracked my cycle to be safe and it worked for us for two whole years without a single scare. She just kind of laughed and said "I guess you got lucky then." As if it couldn't work for people? I don't know, I'm just not sure what I should do in this situation. She also repeatedly commented on my weight saying "this still works well for people who are thinner." I wasn't aware birth control got iffy if you were on the thin side? Does it?

I had a dvt and the only options are the mini pill and iud. Do they plan on starting you with injections? I’m not sure if weight plays into it. I would hope not.

They haven't made any plans so far. She told me absolutely no pill since I've got another vascular issue in my leg they wouldn't recommend using the pill with it. They said shots or the nexplannon implant was the best bet. But there's still that extra risk associated with both options. And I'm nearly always classed as "underweight" so I'm not sure if that would affect anything?

@rariszoo, ohh okay. The nexplanon wasn’t a bad choice when I had it. I only took it out because we were TTC.

We used condoms for years and avoided pregnancy. If that’s what is safe for u do it
