So i plan on breastfeeding but I was wondering the whole situation with a pacifier.. when she’s born can I give her one because I know it helps prevent SIDS but i also heard that it’ll make things more difficult during breastfeeding if I give her the pacifier right away and not wait a month.. what should I do?

Yo mama

Some hospitals won’t give you a binkie any more. I, myself, personally have never had a problem with my children taking 1 then taking the boob. Different people have different experiences. My older two did really take 1 after a month or two. My 3 was on it for a few months. This last baby loves his bink. So there’s not definite answer on how she’ll take it or to your breast until she’s here.

@alainafaith1234, take it a day at a time. Some babies love them. Some don’t because they figure out there’s no food coming out. Go off her lead and see where it goes. Good luck!

I breastfed my first one for 2 1/2 years and my second one I plan to bf for as long as she wants to also. With both of them I waited 2 weeks to introduce the pacifier... I think that’s the rule of thumb, I read that somewhere. You should wait bc you don’t want nipple confusion, tjay is the whole concept behind it. But again is up to you. Every baby is different ☺️

My daughter was EBF and took a binkie the day she was born. My son was also EBF and absolutely refused a binkie. Neither of them had issues with nipple confusion.

You should try to wait until 3wks to give a binky. It could cause nipple confusion. It doesn’t for all babies but for some it does. For example, my 5wk old got nipple confusion. She nursed great at first but I used the binky and she got nipple confusion and it almost stopped our breastfeeding journey before it even started.

But my first took one after 3wks and so far my second daughter takes one sometimes. They only like the avent soothies though or binkies that have the nipple like the soothies do.

Okay! I might do that then!

Breastfeeding and pacifiers

Breastfeeding and pacifiers Hey all you breastfeeding mamas are you giving your baby a pacifier? I'm scared to give mine one because I read it can mess up their latch

I wanted to do one of these before our breastfeeding journey ended. I have a feeling it’s soon 😔 since her dr has us…

I wanted to do one of these before our breastfeeding journey ended. I have a feeling it’s soon 😔 since her dr has us giving her formula to give her more calories, I’m finding it difficult to give her breastmilk as well. She gets full off of me alone so she doesn’t want the formula if I breastfeed her first. And if I give her formula first, she doesn’t want the breastmilk. I’ve been alternating feedings but that’s just caused my supply to drop. She’s getting chunky, though. That’s all I care about, really.
