Ladies I need help. A very dear friend of mine is going through a tough time in her marriage. Plain and simple her husband is an alcoholic. She's no angel, but what it boils down to at the moment is his alcohol use is out of control. Now, I've been in a relationship (not a marriage) with an addict. I went through arrests, embarrassments, rehab, jail, the list goes on. I've given her advice, but she obviously doesn't take it. She has a young child and I hate to see her drag herself down into this hole he's spiraling into. Each incident she tells me of is worse than the last. I know something big is coming...for one of them, which is all of them at the same time. I want so badly to prevent some of the hurt she will endure but idk how to get her to listen to me. Or anyone for that matter. She's been way to lenient and forgiving....well not so much forgiving but she just kinda keeps moving on from these things. Threatens with no consequences. I've been there, I know where she is but she doesn't idk....it's just not getting through. Can anyone share some ideas with me? I've already told her to speak to her therapist about it all. Promised I wouldn't tell her to stay or leave but also would be honest about my perspective on it all. That no matter what I'd be there to help her through the ugly, bc no matter what she chooses it will become ugly at some point. Any pointers are so very much appreciated. Thank you.
