Did any women who suffered from severe depression while pregnant notice any issues with their child’s emotional development as they got older?
DD is 2.5, so not classified as "older" but she is the happiest little girl thus far. I suffered from depression nearly my entire pregnancy, and developed ppd after she was born, which I was also scared would hinder her emotional development. She's very sweet, empathetic, sassy, and happy 😊
If you're suffering from depression, it's definitely worth speaking to your ob/midwife about. They can help!
I am and already have been diagnosed. They also put me on meds and I’m just super scared for the sake of my little one. I pray I can pull through. I know my babies father suffered from depression and his mother also suffered from severe depression. I just really want to break the cycle but it’s not that easy.
@livingwithmariah, just know that you are doing all that you can to ensure that your baby is happy and healthy. If your child does become diagnosed with depression later on in life, it's probably genetic and your being depressed during pregnancy is highly unlikely to attribute to negative emotional development. Mom's already have a million things that we feel guilty about on the daily, please, Please don't feel guilty for being depressed. It is not your fault and you aren't hurting your baby.
I’ve dealt with it for 12 years now. It got worse while I was pregnant. And ppd set in. As for my son. He’s only 1.5 but so far emotionally and everywhere else he’s developing great.
