i started giving my son tiny portions of 'whole milk' when he was 11 months old, i would give him a little less than an ounce of cows milk everyday until he turned a year old, on his 1st birthday is when i got him off of formula completely.. just make sure not to give your LO more than 16-24oz of cows milk per day, it can lead to nurmerous health problems in the future if you give your LO more than 24oz a day

I just cut formula cold turkey ( mostly because I ran out of formula) . She eats a lot of yogurt and cheese so she didn’t have problem. Never constipated .  I also took away all the bottles . So she just has straw sippy cups , soft spout sippy cups and 360 cups , but I started her on sippy cups at 6 months . She didn’t even notice a difference and she loves milk .

With my son I started him at 11 months and I went to subtracting 2 oz from his normal bottle and replace that 2 ounces of formula with 2 oz of whole milk I did that for maybe about two weeks or a week and then I took off another 2 Oz and added another two ounces of whole milk so it'll have whole milk and half formula and little by little you pretty much keep taking two ounces off and they pretty much get used to it by then

We did half milk/half formula for about a week and a half. Then slowly added more milk less formula over a couple of days, eventually we just added a small amount of the powdered formula into the whole milk until our can was gone.

Don’t stress it too much. The formula is better for them anyway. It’s packed with lots and lots of nutrients & It’s not like they turn into a whole new person right at one years old lol. If he’s eating enough solids throughout the day to sustain his nutritional needs, then he’s probably ready for whole milk.

Personally, I weaned my daughter from 13-14 months because she was a preemie and didn’t consistently eat solids yet. This is what I did:

1/4 whole milk-3/4 formula for a week. Then 1/2 whole milk-1/2 formula for a week. Then 3/4 whole milk-1/4 formula & then all whole milk the next week.. I occasionally added a little formula until it was all gone but I had the ready to feed formula so it required no measuring or mixing and was much simpler to add in with the milk. I can’t imagine doing this with powdered formula but if you were going to, I’d make a days worth and store it in the fridge for the allotted 24 hours and then mix it in with the whole milk when it’s time to make the bottle/sippy of milk so that you can just do it all instantly and not have to waste much, if any.

I used powdered formula and I would mix the formula in sippy or bottle first and then top up with whole milk.

@miaheka, Do it sooner than later! Soft spout silicone sippys would be a good instant transition. Meaning, first thing in the morning when he wants milk the most, give him the new sippy. He will likely want the milk so bad at that time of day he won’t care what it comes from. The nipple should feel really similar to a bottle nipple if you buy those soft spout silicone nipples. If you use fast flow nipples, I’d recommend a sippy like the Avent soft spout silicone sippys. The milk comes out really fast with those. If you use slow flow nipples, I’d use something like the munchkin silicone soft spout sippys.. the milk requires the baby to suck a little harder for milk to come out. I used/use the Nuk soft spout sippys for milk only and then hard spout sippys and (munchkin) 360 cups for water/juice. It’s like the equivalent of a standard/medium flow nipple and is literally the only sippy she will drink milk out of 🙄 it was a lot of trial and error for us. We have I don’t know how many different types of sippys in the house now lmao. I hope it goes much easier for you.

Also I wouldn’t transition milk and sippys at the same time just because you won’t know which one your son has an issue with if he refuses it and might end up contributing to him having an aversion to both instead of just the one.

I did half formula and half whole milk for a month with Easton and then just completely switched to whole milk and he’s doing great so far with it.

@miaheka, That’s good you’re doing everything you can to switch now it’s just a waiting game of when you think it’s the right time to completely switch over. He’s still hooked to his bottle it’s been hard getting him switched to a sippy cup but I’ve been trying to limit his bottle to morning, nap time, and bedtime, and then the rest of the time he will get his sippy but he throws a fit every time he’s not too happy with me.

The doctors tell you at 1 they are suppose to be off formula and drinking 1 whole milk so I never wined him off I just gave him the whole milk vitamin D when he turned 1.
