There really is no “flip side” to the seat switch. Here’s a little more info for you @kthomps88 or for anyone else who is wondering why extended rear facing is recommended.

My son was switched at 14 months. He was miserable RF. Yes I know the recommendations. Yes he is super tall and was at a weight that we felt comfortable switching him. We also had everything checked by a healthcare professional with younger children of her own and she was supportive of our decision. Just wanted to give the flip side of the seat switch

Thank you everyone for your input! My MIL recently told me that I should have him forward facing at 6 months but I thought that was way too early so your opinions and knowledge on the subject really helped me out!

5.5 years old. When we had to do it for the seat limits.

2 years is the earliest recommendation for forward facing. However most medical & safety personnel agree to let your child max out the rear limits before turning forwards.
