Anyone have experience with a toddler who purposely holds their pee for long periods of time and freaks out when they finally have to go? Her dr has confirmed she doesn’t have an infection and it’s just behavioral. My guess is sensory issues. We have been advised to ignore it, not make a big deal out of going, and hope she resolves the issue on her own. She refuses to wear underwear or even sit on a toilet, she will only wear diapers. She will hold it for so long that she just cries until she finally goes, and since she holds it for so long, it fills the diaper and immediately starts leaking out. Which I think freaks her out more getting all wet. I’m at a loss of what else to do.

Yes, one of my boys has sensory processing issues. One of our biggest issues has been his bathroom habits. He will hold his bladder for so long. I’d ask her pediatrician for some tips. My son is six now and we still have some struggles but it’s improved as he has gotten older.

Her pediatrician is the one who advised us to ignore and not make a big deal. It does seem to help a little if she stays distracted. I’m just worried she’ll end causing life long problems because of this. I feel so bad, I know it just makes her so uncomfortable.

maybe as she gets older she will start to become more ready. My son wasn’t ready to potty train until he was close to four. (Most of my boys were 3-4 when they trained actually.) I’d keep an eye on it and if there isn’t an improvement I’d keep bringing it back up. I had to switch my son’s doctor at one point because they wouldn’t listen about his sensory issues.

Try letting her go without wearing anything. Put her pot in front of the tv to watch her favorite show and see if she'll sit on it. Good luck! B patient it'll come

Unfortunately, this is also one of her big issues. She has to be fully clothed with a diaper, not a pull up or underwear, or else she just shuts down and gets uncontrollable. We have taken a break from suggesting the potty at all since she started holding it for so long.

Poor baby! Is she upset when u take her clothes off? Jus give it time. Wat we fail to realize sometimes is they have to be ready to b potty trained and she dnt seem ready yet. She's goin to do it all by herself one day. I'd still encourage her to go to the potty cause repetition is key but dnt force it
