Has anyone gotten their 5+ year old a hamster? My daughter is very well behaved and loves all animals and even creepy crawlers lol. I think she is ready. If there is any tips or advice I would greatly appreciate it. She will be responsible for cleaning the cage, feeding and giving water to her hamster and loving him/her. We are getting it today. I’m going to get her some disposable gloves for when she cleans the cage. Anything else though? I never had a hamster so I know nothing
When I was researching just a little bit ago someone said the same thing and it’s because they can barely see so somethings scare them and they react.
Don't they live a long time? Like ten years or something crazy. I can't commit to an animal that long lol we have a fish. Good luck
Mine lived way longer than it was supposed too it was so weird but i was so young that it made me feel better knowing he lived longer than he should have lol
you’ll want a big cage for your hamster. the things they sell in the pet stores aren’t suitable. they’re way too small. do your research, and there’s tons of DIY cages you can make for cheap! 😊
Thank you so much! I was looking at petco’s starter kits and it seemed a bit small. They have some nice big 2 story cages for about $40 so I might just get one of those and buy everything separate in bulk so we have plenty for a while
A fish and worms so far lol. I prefer rats over hamsters though but with any animal supervision should always be ill advised.
We have a fish but she needs something to actually hold and love. She will defiantly be supervised while she has the hamster out of the cage. And the cage will remain in the living room. Thank you :) I had a couple rats many years ago and I remember them eating clawing and tearing up everything so I don’t know how I feel about that lol.
Ours wants one, but we will likely get something similar that isnt nocturnal.
Idk how true it is but I heard they can be aggressive
