Anyone here have a S.O. with a criminal past? Mine has a felony from 7 years ago (got caught with pills in the car he was driving. It was his aunts, but she ended up passing away before they went to court so she could testify), and its so depressing trying to find him a job. He can only go through temp agencies or work fast food, but he wants a career. My dad tried to get him a job, and they initially said they'd try it, then they changed their mind when someone called and complained. Its just so frustrating and depressing and infuriating 😣😣

You may have to move to find a job. Here in georgia the area I live in has a bunch of carpet manufacturing plants and they hire everyone. It's a blessing for people having a hard time. My SOs bestfriend at work is a felon and theyve never treated him differently. They make about $20/hr too which is really good money for this area. He might have to commute to find a good job

Well we already have to commute because we live in the middle of nowhere lol, but unfortunately moving right now isnt an option. We took over my dads mortgage to save his finances, and to save my childhood home. So were here for a while

Yea mine used to fight all the time so been locked up 9 times for that. When he was 19 he got a felony charge for shooting at a trailer. He was on probation when we met. Sense we been together and it will be 12years this year he hasnt been in anymore trouble. I tell him he had to meet the right woman first. My SO has a pretty good landscaping job. He does pretty well.

Mine hasnt had so much as a parking ticket since the conviction, but no one wants to see that part. They just see the word "felon" and that automatically means hes not good enough around here

Mine has just a misdemeanor but yes it’s so hard! He’s working at Home Depot they pay him 15.50 an hour but he’s only part time but I can’t even imagine a felony I’m sorry you’re going through this, is there any way he can try expunging it?

@shellee94, ugh I’m sorry, you said in your other comment you could open up a business with your law degree, in your state do you have to notify clients that he has a felony?

@charisma.luna12 im not sure honestly, but its a small community where i live, and it wouldnt take long for word to get around. Maybe later on when we can move that might be an option though =/

I wish we could do that, but the only business we could open is with my law degree, but i dont think thatd go over real well with clients if they found out i had a felon working for me lol

How did he get them to give him a chance? When he goes through temp agencies, he always gets praised and raises and such, but when it comes time to go full time, they turn him away because of the felony =/

@shellee94, he’s just a really hard worker and he’s honest about his past and such and they’ve mostly been understanding it’s hard to find good bosses but he’s been lucky

@tinyhumansbitch yea unfortunately, around here atleast, being honest about his past does him more harm than good =/ like he had a really good job at a car parts factory early last year, was doing great, exceeded expectations and everything, but then when his background check came back, they let him go because of his felony
