Being caught up in the system. Having a mother to show me exactly what a mother shouldn’t do or be like.

Being adopted has always made me want to be a better mother than my trash one who gave us all up for drugs 🤷🏼♀️

Being adopted. I lost my biology and my family and have been dealing with that trauma all my life.

Having my grandparents live close by. My kids don’t have that.

Growing up with an abusive bio dad and both my parents being drug addicts showed me what not to be as a parent.
At the same time, seeing my mom leave my bio dad and then leaving me with my granny to go get help and being in recovery (even when she relapsed and started over multiple times) showed me that sometimes leaving your children with someone else who is able to care for them is the best thing you could do for them as a parent.
AND my dear sweet old granny taught me great ways to be a parent and unconditional love as her own child.

My dad suffered a brain hemorrhage when I was 11. He lived, but was a completely different person after. My mom did the best she could to keep things as normal as possible for us, but in hindsight she definitely should’ve put us in counseling to deal with the strange loss of losing a parent but having them still be there. If anything traumatic happens in my son’s life, I will be sure to get him the help he may need. My dad’s recovery was slow but things are better now. Through that experience my mother taught me how to be a strong woman and mother, even when things were disastrous for some time.

having my grandparents raise me and learning what broken promises (that came from my birth mother) were at a young age. growing up lower class but not poor. I've learned to appreciate what I have and I don't judge a person til i've been able to gain my own person opinion about them. my grandparents were and still are so self less, they deserve the world and i'm thankful I was able to grow up under their wings.
