How do I tell the family that this time around we don’t want anyone at the hospital or at our house to see the baby for a first few weeks ? When we had Ayden, I had to have a c-section and as soon as I came out of recovery everyone bombarded us and me and my husband didn’t get to enjoy the baby for a few Alone. Within days everyone would pop up unannounced and it was super annoying. I just want me, my son, and my husband to enjoy the second baby. This is new for us and I just want everyone to respect that without overreacting.

Just be blunt. Tell them you do not want visitors because you'd like to enjoy the babies first few weeks as a family.

That’s what my husband said to do , but I know both of our families very well and they both will overreact and make it into something it’s not.

Just don’t even tell them when you go into labor. Or if you do tell them you’ll let them know when they can come by. L & D staff are normally really good with not allowing unwanted visitors inside so if you tell them you don’t want anyone in there but your husband, they’ll listen to you. Just make sure you tell multiple people and reiterate that it is vey important to you. They have heard this request enough times and completely understand.

That’s a really good idea lol. I won’t say a word when I go into labor. But I hope after they don’t take it the wrong way. I totally didn’t even think about telling the l&d staff no visitors. I will definitely tell them. It’s a big relief to know that they will respect that and won’t think we are being assholes.

Honestly if you're gentle about it, they won't respect it. People popped up unannounced for a whole month and I had nicely requested prior that I be given space. Be blunt. You can be polite about it but just put it out there.

Omg that sounds like my family. I usually have to have my husband handle both families with respecting boundaries because because they usually don’t. But his family is super extra and over dramatic about the littlest things. I don’t want to be made out to be the bad guy . I definitely agree thinking about it again. I will have to be blunt with them.

Sounds like a plan to me lol ! 😂

Your family is going to be pissy about it anyways. Just be blunt and tell them that you want time to bond as a family. They will get to spend time soon enough, they don't need to be in the hospital with you.

You are absolutely right ! Either way they will be upset so I will just let them know and try to even think about how they might feel about it. Everyone showed up to the hospital when I had Ayden and the room was loud and bright and I couldn’t even think straight. I plan on pushing this time so I definitely need to be focused and relaxed.

Upfront and honest is always the best policy.
